Constipated - help

Sorry, TMI to follow.

I never experienced constipation in my first pregnancy so of course I'm struggling with it this time round.

In the past two weeks, I think I've only had a bowel movement twice and both times have been a battle - really painful and difficult to pass.

I understand my diet has been pretty lacking the last few weeks (I'm 9 + 2 and fighting morning sickness), but I've made a conscious effort to up my fluid intake.

I finally bought some medication yesterday (5mg Bisacodyl - Boots own) and have taken one tablet yesterday and one today. It does say you can take two but to only take one if you've never used it before. It can only be used for 5 days.

I've not seen any results yet, apart from one of my painful movements yesterday.

Can anyone recommend alternatives? I'm so uncomfortable and bloated and it's all feeling worse with the morning sickness.

Movicol - ask over the counter at pharmacist. I take two sachets a day on prescription but you can also by OTC. It's a little expensive £16 but really great.

Lots of fibre and prunes.
I take fybogel ( fibre drink)
make sure what your taking is pre approved by a doctor.
You have my sympathy. I've been going through horrendous constipation and it's been so painful I've developed fissures and piles. My anus burns and hurts all day long. I'm slowly starting to come around tho and feeling alot more comfortable and bowel movements are becoming more easy

If movicol doesn't work, try a glycerine suppository to get things moving.

i feel your pain I really struggled with this in my first trimester when my body refused to eat anything other than cheese, oatcakes and the occasional sausage.

My midwife and GP prescribed lactulose. They also added you can get it straight from the pharmacy if needed.

eating fruit can also help especially when you are struggling to eat round morning sickness - apples and kiwis I found helpful.

I hope your morning sickness eases up soon it is truly the worst.

Coffee always worked for me
Nhs say you can safely have up to 200mg during pregnancy

Yeah I do think my body heavily relies on caffeine to go, but I'm queasy at the thought of coffee atm and drinking decaff.
