weird changes in body, feels like pregnancy?

Warning: may be TMI, I'm explaining as much as possible

So a while back I felt so sure I was having implantation symptoms
My cycle was a bit off, I felt strange twinges to one side of my uterus, just something I had never felt before. I wasn't TTC but it was possible since I wasn't on birth control and relied on the pull out method

But sure enough af showed up eventually. Despite that, I took a test to be sure and sure enough it was negative. A little suspicious negative, but I have line eyes.

I was content with my answer and life as normal continued.

Roughly 4 months later:
My abdomen has within the past month, grown to the point where I look so bloated I almost look pregnant. My coat is quite tight now, and I have put on a small amount of weight for the first time in years, with no changes to diet or lifestyle. I'm quite a slim build and I'm very tall, and the only area that's grown is my abdomen. I'm not huge, but, it's enough to make me concerned especially since it hasn't gone down. Usually if I'm bloated it only lasts a few days.

I'm still seeing my cycle every month, plus intermenstrual bleeding (more than I've ever experienced)
I'm not experiencing pregnancy symptoms aside from a bit of nausea, randomly I feel sick just looking at random things that never caused that before, but I'm not throwing up, even if I gag. My back also really hurts and I feel heavy.

The weirdest thing of all, is I keep feeling movement in my abdomen. Sometimes I see it too, like spasms. I feel it under my bellybutton, or to the side of it. I can feel it sometimes with my hand against my skin, or just internally like something flips over.

I went for a short but fairly quick walk in the cold today, when i eventually sat down it felt like 10 spasms happened all at once inside me, settled and then a few more, it felt utterly bizarre and lasted a minute or so. It felt really quite strong, I've never felt that before. This has gotten more frequent over the past couple weeks

I know it's possible to have your period and be pregnant, or even to have a cryptic pregnancy with the hook effect on pregnancy tests. But I honestly don't know if I'm being a crazy person or if I could actually be pregnant. As far as we are aware, he has pulled out successfully each time and he has taken necessary precautions against... contamination, so I'm kind of in disbelief that it could even be possible.

I want to take a test, including tests with diluted urine to counteract the hook effect, but I feel so sure it'll be negative and I'm not sure either of us will trust it.

What do you all think?

It's not.

You would not have 4 months of periods and be pregnant.

Without meaning to scare you, you need to see your GP. I have very similar symptoms to you and am having tests now to try to rule out ovarian cancer.

Op if you have an enlarged abdomen and mid cycle bleeding, that definitely needs checking with a gynecologist x

I agree. Make an appointment with your GP. They can refer you for blood tests and scans.

I agree with this too actually, I’d be phoning the GP first thing tomorrow.

You actually can. It might be considered a real period but some people bleed every month during pregnancy, sometimes all 9 months. If you don't believe me, look it up. But don't tell me I'm wrong, because I'm not.

Thank you so much for your reply
This is what I was worried about, that if it isn't a pregnancy that it could be something more concerning... I definitely appreciate you sharing this. I hope everything is okay with you. I will definitely get checked out, it's just really difficult to at the moment. Thank you, again

I mean, it's definitely possible to have 'periods' during pregnancy. Obviously it makes it hard less likely you are pregnant but combined with the weird twitching sensation it's possible there's a baby in there.

You've been a bit cryptic as to why it's not possible to get a home pregnancy test, so I'm guessing a private scan is out of the question, but could you go to the gp and get them to do a blood test for you. I've never heard of the hook effect affecting a blood result so the gp should be able to rule pregnancy in or out and if that's not it you'll be in the right place to have further investigating in case there's something else going on.

I really don't appreciate your response. I'd recommend against assuming someone's situation or their abilities to simply go get a test. I am not in a position to do that quite so freely so cut the attitude.
Secondly if you'd bothered to read my post, you'd see I've already taken a test, and that's the problem. As far as I can tell, I'm not pregnant, but unfortunately there is such a thing as a cryptic pregnancy, or a pregnancy with the hook effect which is when imbalanced hormones cause false negatives on urine, or even blood tests.
The point of my post was not to receive judgement from a community of people who ought to have a little sympathy.
I just wanted advice, or to see if other women had experienced similar feelings or had tried a diluted test in order to counteract the hook effect. You have no idea of my mental state or my situation right now, or how this is affecting me
If you have nothing positive to input, kindly butt out...

If you're that mentally fragile then why post on an anonymous public forum?

A pack of tests is a few pound out of any pound store.

PointyMcguire · 08/01/2024 04:22

If nothing else, I definitely agree with others that you should see a GP as soon as you can, though a test would likely give you a more immediate answer.

On the hook effect, I know it gets mentioned on here a lot but I’m not hugely convinced. Myself and a few others took tests at 30+ weeks when someone on a different thread was categorically stating you couldn’t have a positive test in the third trimester, despite this all our tests couldn’t have been more positive. Appreciate it’s not a large sample size, but I’m yet to know anyone IRL that’s heavily pregnant and not getting positives on a pregnancy test.

No one can be pregnant and get a monthly menstrual cycle for 9 months. That's not how biology works.

These are my ‘hook effect’ tests. As you can see, the one without water was fainter but still positive. I was about 5/6 weeks pregnant at this point. I have never seen an example of the test coming back negative because of this.

Stephy1024 · 08/01/2024 14:11

Honestly anything is possible. From what you've said you took the test early. If you are infact pregnant it would show by now. Best of luck and let us know the outcome.

MoonstoneGoddess · 08/01/2024 14:19

If your not even in a position to buy a test then perhaps you should contemplate a more effective form of contraception than 'pulling out'

CoolAunt · 18/09/2025 20:46

Hi just wondering what your outcome was? I’m experiencing something similar
