Hi all

I’m only about four weeks pregnant (and this is about my millionth post haha)

Since Christmas, more so the past week I am waking up literally every 2/3 hours then wide awake from about 5:30am, absolutely starving. I’m writing this now at 5:14am.

Is this normal? How do I fix it? (I know once baby is here it will become the norm but for now I’d like my sleep. I work about 40 hours a week in a very busy job so I definitely NEED it).

Thanks!

Morning! Try not to stress about it - pregnancy is so weird and a really interrupted sleep pattern is horribly usual. I'm afraid my advice is very boring - go to bed earlier, nap in the day when you can, try to rest if you can't sleep.

If you're waking up because you're hungry, that's easy enough to fix - have some nuts/ trail mix/ whatever beside the bed and munch away.

I feel your pain! I'm now 9 weeks and it has been happening since before I found out. Literally every night 😴. I suppose it's good preparation for when the baby arrives!

Yes that was normal for me in both pregnancies and even now at 37 weeks- up since 5am finally admitted defeat and had a snack and now have to sit upright to digest it. I find if I move more during the day and get adequate protein, maybe a light but not sugary snack just before bed (glass of milk/ plain yoghurt, some nuts not too heavy) it really helps limit the early waking. Check your vitamin levels and try to take the vits earlier in the day too. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Yep totally normal I’m afraid. No matter what time I go to bed I wake up between 4am and 5.30 and can’t get back to sleep. I’m 13+6 and been like this since 4 weeks. I’ve started going to bed earlier to compensate, and having naps after work too.

What is your current weight like?

What was your diet like pre finding out pregnant?

My current weight is 8st12.
My diet was ok, not the best but I do have some vegetables every tea time. Not the biggest meat eater.

Take some snacks to bed!

MrsW9 · 07/01/2024 11:31

I had this in very early pregnancy and again in the second trimester (but very low appetite in between, weirdly). An additional large snack/small meal at around 10pm was helpful e.g. toast with generous amounts of peanut butter, pitta and houmous, or just leftovers from dinner earlier. I also had/have nuts and oatcakes on bedside table if needed.

I'm struggling with sleep too. I wake up at 2am and 4am every night and tend to toss and turn a lot throughout the night. If you're waking up hungry then as others have said maybe have a snack. I'm making sure to eat something before bed and have emergency crackers by my bed!

Yes, I have similar problem. I just embrace it.

Agree with others rest whenever you can. I found in the middle of night a cup of warm milk help me doze off if I really want to get back to sleep asap.

hope it helps!
