Upset tummy after c-section

Just trying to gauge what’s normal and what isn’t. Had an emergency c-section on Wednesday evening, now really struggling with stomach symptoms. Constantly dashing for the toilet every 10 mins or so, feel like I’m about to crap my pants, insane air and rumbling sounds going on, farting non-stop and it stinks of rotting food (sorry TMI), but when I go…nothing. I’m desperate for something to come out, so be taken every laxative under the sun (still in hospital currently).

Ive had 1 successful bowel movement, which I can only describe as if you microwaved a jar of peanut butter so it was basically liquid and poured that down the toilet (matches colour too). After that I thought I was set, but no straight back to the desperate feeling + wind + nothing in the toilet.

my bump also feels bizarre, like weirdly heavy, like it’s becoming detached from the rest of me. Not loving it.

Wednesday is very soon, you can expect everything to be strange for a while. I had major constipation after giving birth. Mention next time they check on you if you feel worried
...
Im mainly commenting about the bump feeling... my stomach was totally numb after c section for months it was weird and heavy but the feeling came back. I was also totally numb in (honestly its embarrassing I'm so glad MN is anonymous) ... one bum cheek. Totally numb for weeks. It'll all calm down and you'll start to feel normal again x

Try mint tea or colpermin, the wind is so painful. But after a week or 2 you'll feel normal. It could be a combo of sleeplessness, the drugs they give you, complete diet change etc causing the stomach issues, I'm sure they'll pass in a few days. I took lactalose for about 2 weeks and then everything was normal.

I had this for a few weeks. Drank A LOT of peppermint tea and reminded myself that my insides had literally been manhandled and rearranged. It will go away eventually. I had such awful trapped wind to begin with so once I was able to get rid of it I didn't hold back 😂

The usual thing is to be constipated after a section due to nil by mouth, the shock to the system of abdominal surgery and opiates. It sounds like you might have picked up a bug.

I agree with previous posters about taking laxatives. The hospital gave me lactulose and morphine tabs along with iron for blood loss. It took me a few days but luckily had no constipation, I also had movicol in the house because I struggle with ibs-C so that helped too.
As for the trapped air feeling, it's so odd I felt it in my shoulder. I had a couple cups of peppermint tea, but once my system kicked back into gear passing wind also made a difference.
Really hope you feel okay soon, I had an emergency section 2 months ago and the after effects were a massive shock to me. Also really hope you havent got a bug, they're rough at the best of times, nevermind after major surgery.

I had very bad diarrhoea after my first c section - a reaction to some of the drugs apparently. Are you sure that now it isn’t just all the laxatives? Try peppermint tea or windease type medication, that may help.

And as I found out second time round, diarrhoea was far preferable to the most awful constipation I had then. That was traumatic.
