Complete placenta previa- seeking support

I’m 27 weeks today and have had a pretty turbulent 2nd trimester. Since 12wks I’ve been spotting brownish blood pretty much daily.

At 20 weeks I was diagnosed with complete placenta previa which was mainly posterior but did cover all the way over the anterior. According to my consultant, due to its positioning it is unlikely to move enough through my pregnancy. Then the bleeds started… I’ve been in and out of hospital a couple of times now each time with around 150ml bleeds of fresh red blood.

I don’t mean to panic anyone and please know that I have a level 4 complete placenta previa but below is my bleed/hospital log.

I’ve not been given steroids yet and my understanding is that my bleeds will have to be bigger for considering a delivery. I’m just in a state of freaking myself out at the moment and am looking for someone who is in or have experience of a similar position.

I’m not working at all at the moment as after my last hospital stint I’m really just wanting to stay horizontal at home.

however, all of my bleeds have happened in the middle of the night and with my partner working nightshifts. I have been taking Uber to the hospital. Maybe I should’ve been calling 999?

My antenatal class start tomorrow. I’ve opted for four classes each four hours long and now I’m really worried that this will mean that I’m ‘overdoing’ it.

If anyone here has had an experience of this level, plus the previa with bleeding, did you put yourself on complete bed rest and if so, did it help?

Week 12-23: Brown spotting
week 23: 150ml Hospital
Week 23+1: Large clot
week 24: Discharged
week 24-25: Brown light bleeding
week 25+3: 150ml
Week 25+4: Clot + 50ml (triage but sent home)
week 26: 120ml hospital
week 26+1: Medium clot
week 26+4: Discharged
currently: continuous brown light bleeding

I had complete placenta previa with a twin pregnancy. Unfortunately I also had to inject blood thinners daily due to a clotting disorder, which made bleeds very high risk. I was in hospital on bed rest with two cannulas in for the last month and a few units of blood on standby at all times, and tbh was glad to be there, although it was a bit grim - I was getting scared of a big bleed. But I did make it through to 37 weeks thanks to the bed rest and my girls were healthy. It’s really scary, I totally get the feeling of not wanting to push yourself too far - I would definitely listen to your body and err on the safe side. You might want to discuss when bed rest / hospital might be recommended. I didn’t bleed as much as you but I do vividly remember the fear of it, I really hope everything runs smoothly for you.

I can’t speak from direct experience unfortunately but my friend at work is going through almost exactly the same as you with the bleeding. She has carried on working as felt well enough and was not advised to stop, she does a desk job and can work at home when needed though so that was probably taken in to consideration. I would just ask for the doctors recommendation and don’t do anything you’re not comfortable with.

My friend has been booked in for c section soon when she’ll be 35 weeks. They booked the section for her after an admittance to hospital the week before Christmas, she was released from hospital quite quickly after everything was confirmed as ok with baby. There was conversation of delivery baby sooner if needed but the doctors were happy that her and baby are stable so are leaving her a little bit longer.
