Am I just overthinking things?

I'm currently 7 weeks pregnant and am waiting for my first doctor appointment which won't be for another 2 weeks. I can't seem to stop overthinking things. I keep having cramps that feel like period cramps, I'm not really experiencing major morning sickness I just get a little nausea here and there and am just feeling so exhausted all the time. I'm not having any spotting or anything so that's positive but I keep having major anxiety that is making me afraid that things aren't going right. This is very much a wanted pregnancy and can't stop overthinking that something is wrong especially since I haven't been to my first doctor appointment yet. Is this normal? Have other's experienced this? I would be very grateful for any help or advice to help put my mind at ease.

Yes, very normal. Remember, it’s out your control, accepting that helps. Focus on what you can do - eat healthily, exercise, pregnancy vitamins, sleep. What happens will happen.

Have you checked with the GP’s receptionist that you need a doctor’s appointment? In lots of areas you self refer to the midwifery service.

Cramping is due to everything stretching and the exhausting is normal until you finish making a placenta - at the moment your body is making a whole new organ.

Oh OP! The cramps! No one warned me about the cramps. They tell you about the tiredness, nausea and bloating. They tell you about feet swelling and pelvic pain and all that jazz. But the cramps were the worst part of my 1st trimester by far!

However, so far, healthy pregnancy. Apparently they are completely normal, so please try not to worry (easy to say, difficult to do).

I actually tempted fate as I said to DH before I got pregnant, that the one thing I was looking forward to was not having period cramps for 9 months... then had weeks of the bloody things.

I had period like cramps around when my period should have been due for about 3 months, I had 3 incidents of small spotting around those times too, the anxiety this caused me was unreal.
Also, had very few symptoms at the start and all the way through the pregnancy. Currently 28 weeks with a healthy pregnancy.
All the best on your pregnancy and a massive congratulations.

Yes, pain, everywhere and anywhere - all normal throughout pregnancy. Nausea coming and going is normal. Bleeding can be normal too.

Try to relax. (I know it's hard.)

That tiredness is a good sign (although really horrible). With my first pregnancy, my tiredness was so bad I was tempted to lie down on the pavement, one day, to have a sleep... 😂

I feel exactly the same, I’m currently 5 weeks and the anxiety is just huge. I’m super aware of every twinge.
When I was pregnant with my daughter I didn’t worry about anything, we then had a loss and this pregnancy I’m already stressing out. So it’s going to be a long few weeks.
I keep telling myself that what happens will happen and to take each day as it comes. But it’s difficult. I feel like I’m forever going to the toilet to see if I’m bleeding.
Ive also been having cramps and a lot of pulling, feels almost like a pulled muscle. The doctor told me it’s very common and all of your hormones kicking into gear.
congratulations on your pregnancy

I had exactly the same, cramping and no symptoms really which was entirely different to my first pregnancy. The midwife said all normal but I still felt anxious and booked a private scan at 9 weeks which was all fine and I'm now almost 13 weeks. The cramping stopped for me about 8-9 weeks so you may find it eases off soon!

TheShellBeach · 06/01/2024 08:03

Don't worry, OP. Most women feel like this. It all sounds normal!

Why are you having a doctor's appt at 9 weeks? Have you booked with your midwife yet?
