Hello,

I’ve just found out I’m rhesus negative and I’m so worried because I had a bleed (hermatoma) about 5 weeks ago but because I didn’t know my blood type nothing was actioned.

im now 12 weeks pregnant with no bleeding since but worried the damage is already done?

it’s my first pregnancy and I’ve got to wait to speak to EPU in the morning but hoping someone else has a similar story!

thank you

They don't worry that early on.

If you bled before 12 weeks they wouldn't usually give you an anti D injection that early, so don't worry. I'm also Rhesus negative, my first baby was rhesus positive and the baby I'm currently carrying is also positive - just make sure if you have any bleeding beyond this point you contact your midwife straight away to get an anti D injection.
You have 72 hours from the time of first bleeding to have one for it to be most effective. You'll be given routine anti D in your third trimester too and make sure they give you one right after giving birth (unless you opt for the blood test to see what baby is and they are also RH neg).
They will also routinely test for antibodies so if there has been any crossover at any point, they will know about it and be able to manage it for you.
Check out the NHS page on being Rhesus Negative if you haven't already, I found it really informative and it helped me to know what to expect and what I should be asking my midwife for. X

Just wrote a post about my own rh negative pregnancy too today! As this is your first pregnancy it shouldn’t cause a problem for this baby as antibodies aren’t produced fast enough. If you have been sensitised to baby’s positive blood it will be further pregnancies it could affect.

I just spoke to the EPU too about a bump I had, I’m on my second pregnancy, I’m Rh negative and my first baby was Rh positive. In the first 12 weeks they don’t usually need to give anti d but I’m not totally sure for a bleed, hopefully they can give you a definite answer though.

they didn’t tell me either on my first pregnancy until I was 16 weeks so you’d think if there was any risk in the first trimester they would make the effort to find out early and inform you.

Thanks everyone, phoned this morning and anything after 12 weeks is when you need the injection. Panic over! X
