Super early, this just happened today. So unbelievably happy right now. Already have 1 DD who is 3 so been through this before but can't remember the beginning at all.

Just looking for woman who are also early doors and will be due around the same time and ideas of how to keep my mind away from worries and anxiety until I can go for a viability scan at 6/7 weeks and actually get started with doctors appointments.

Hi, I found out a similar time to you, maybe slightly earlier. I haven’t really been able to process it as it was a bit of a shock and still doesn’t feel real. I think I’m waiting for scans to fully accept it. It’s my first pregnancy so I am stepping into the unknown!

HRP1990 · 11/01/2024 10:12

@27andcounting I also have a DD who will be 2 in March! I joined a thread on here back in 2021 whilst we were trying to conceive and I found it so lovely to chat to others whilst in the early weeks.

I got my BFP last week and am now 5 weeks. Hardly any symptoms vs first time round, weirdly I feel quite relaxed about it all at the moment!

@27andcounting I found after a scan and seeing your baby on the screen makes everything seem so much more real!

27andcounting · 14/01/2024 21:06

@HRP1990 how are you getting on? Any symptoms? I did my last digital today to see if we're still sticky and it's 3+ so I'm so feeling really positive now. Got a viability scan a week on Thursday so booking appointment is booked with midwife. No symptoms apart from growing cramps and occasional waves of nausea thankfully. How you finding these first weeks running around after a toddler?

@Catmumma2 how you doing lovely? Any concerns or anything you're unsure about, I remember being worried about every twinge the first time ❤️

@27andcounting

I’ve had a little bit of nausea, cramps and tiredness but not all at once! I’ve found myself getting a little bit out of breath quicker than normal doing any exercise and like you say running around after a toddler 🙈.

I haven’t called the doctors yet, I wanted to leave it abit before I called but I think I’m going to do that tomorrow. For some reason I thought you had to be a certain amount of weeks to call? I can’t remember now!

Aw that’s reassuring that you’ve got a 3+ on your test! I bet you can’t wait for that scan! How are you feeling about the thought of having 2 DC!? I’ve heard it’s an easier jump from 1-2 than 0-1

27andcounting · 14/01/2024 22:17

@HRP1990 that's good news they're not coming all at once, but for sure finding it harder to run around with a very active toddler. We have been playing a lot more role play this weekend than normal because I can just sit with the babies or sit at the kitchen haha.

In my area I had to do a self referral form and then they rang me a week later to book in for around 8 weeks but I don't always have the time to pop into the doctors to sort things so has to take the opportunity whilst OH was doing the nursery run.

The jump is a bit daunting and worrying about juggling my time for both but my work offer a fantastic maternity package which means I don't have to disrupt her nursery or anything which means I have 1-2-1 time for the baby and I guess the rest will be a learn we go. I can imagine it's easier in a lot of ways because as least we know what to expect with a newborn it's just figuring out how to incorporate that to an already established routine. Thankfully my DD will be a 1 month our from being 4 and should be shifting the fussy toddler stage fingers crossed how about you? Any concerns?

When are you planning on telling your DD?

OP posts:
HRP1990 · 14/01/2024 22:33

@27andcounting Aw that’s so cute, I can’t wait for her to get to stage of playing role play! She’s 21 months at the moment so I think we’ll prep her nearer the time as she’s still a little young. I’ve been told to buy books about having a brother/sister.. buying a present from the baby etc. But I’ll think about that more later down the line! My concern prior to that is potty training.. that’s going to be a challenge lol.

Thanks for reminding me, that must have been where I got confused. I’ve just self referred at our local hospital just now, assuming the GP will ring me to book an appointment in like before.

That’s great that you have such a good maternity package! My DD goes to nursery already and will quality for the funding in April which will be a massive help like you say, for 1-2-1 time with baby!

27andcounting · 15/01/2024 07:00

@HRP1990 it's so sweet when they get to that age but they're also so resilient and often times deal with change better than we give them credit for. I have been doing a lot of research into having a second and helping to create a bond between the two. One thing I'm definitely going to implement is not to blame the baby for anything so when there's something I can't do for whatever reason, it's mummies fault and no babies, and also gently telling baby off for things that you might tell DD off for so they don't feel like it's one sided.

Potty training was such a strange experience, we couldn't get it to click for the longest time and then it did and we had minimal accidents. I found a doll in Asda (UK) which you give a bottle of water and it wee's on potty and then it just all just seemed to click in place, and for poo's we just rewards for a little while her first week of poo's she got a present and her first week of no accidents at nursery we got her a present otherwise we then used buttons as encouragement she would get a chocolate button everytime she did a poo and now she no longer wants them but hasn't had any accidents 🤞🏻

I forgot mostly what appointments are but I figured it was a fair place to start, you might find they have referred you to the gp but just not called yet to book you in.

Hi, thanks for asking. Feeling ok so far. Initially I had quite a bit of cramping which is unusual for me as I’m quite lucky and don’t get period pains! Also having occasional waves of nausea and my sense of smell is definitely heightened. I’m very tired at the moment but that isn’t unusual for me. Little concerned as I have ITP (low platelets) so not sure how pregnancy will affect this all but should be able to discuss this all with the doctors shortly. Overall it feels so slow this wait! Haven’t told anyone yet except my partner. 6 weeks today but it feels like a lifetime still to go until first scan! I have got my booking in appointment schedule for two weeks today.

27andcounting · 15/01/2024 12:55

@Catmumma2 Cramps are worrisome aren't they, for the most part completely normally and just everything growing and stretching, trust you instincts.

Honestly just the longest wait isn't it. I keep saying to OH why January it's already the longest month of the year teamed up with waiting to be able to do anything with the pregnancy is just a nightmare like it's going so slowly.

I'll join! I found out a couple of days ago and have just booked my first appointment with the midwife which will be in 3 weeks. I thought the 2ww was bad but now this! So impatient and can't fully accept it until I hear it from a doctor.

27andcounting · 15/01/2024 18:14

@Kofifi welcome!!! Is this your first? How many weeks are you by your estimations?

OP posts:
Kofifi · 15/01/2024 21:25

@27andcounting this is my first yeah so it all feels extra scary and unknown. I'm also a bit of a control freak so I hate that I just have to chill and see what happens haha.
I'm 4-5 weeks I think.

HRP1990 · 16/01/2024 05:35

Insomnia is kicking in, not ideal 😵‍💫

@27andcounting that’s so sweet, gentle telling the new baby off for little things so she doesn’t feel left out. Makes me emotional at the thought.

That is a good ideal with the doll to show how it works, literally! I think I’ll start by just having a potty in the living room so she’s familiar, and when she shows signs of wanting to use it, I’ll take it from there. I imagine it’ll be after the baby is here, given her age. Unless I can temp her on with some buttons lol.

@Kofifi I know what you mean, it doesn’t seem real at the moment! This is my second but even now it feels like it’s the first time for some reason.. all the waiting and the not knowing.

@Catmumma2 I’m with you on the heightened smell! I can smell things that no one else can, and I feel like it’s giving me away lol.

27andcounting · 16/01/2024 19:18

@Kofifi oh it's horrible isn't it, I still feel like that and I've got experience. Are you UK based, I only ask because I remember having my first midwife appointment and was absolutely shocked they actually don't do anything to confirm your pregnancy in such so actually had to wait for the scan at 12 weeks to know everything was good, which is why I've booked a private scan this time round to reassure myself and have a proper confirmation that all is well to begin with.

@HRP1990 @Catmumma2 oh my goodness my smell has gone crazy today I could smell what someone was having for lunch today many many desks over at work and think everyone thought I was crazy. Also just cannot stop peeing all the time hahaha it's horrible and reckon that will be my giveaway as I normally only go once or twice all day at work and seem to be going every hour now.

OP posts:
Kofifi · 16/01/2024 22:12

@27andcounting what?! i didnt know that so thanks for the heads up! Im not in the UK but its probably similar... I'm being seen around week 7/8 but they didn't say what they'd do other than blood tests. I will definitely book a private scan if that's all they do.

Im really sick at the minute with a kindof flu so worried its going to lead to bad news :(

27andcounting · 17/01/2024 12:37

@Kofifi yeah maybe see if you can find anything what what the appointment entails so you know what to expect.

I've got a cold too it's so horrible and just ex extra stress but with a toddler who goes nursery I often have colds

OP posts:
Catmumma2 · 19/01/2024 12:37

I understand your struggles there!

Morning sickness has definitely reached new levels! I have been throwing up every morning for the past few days. I keep fearing that it is only going to get worse!

mumto1girlie · 20/01/2024 09:10

Hey ladies can i join! i’m currently 6 weeks with my second! my little girl is 3 (will be nearly 4 by the time im due)!
congrats to everyone! i’m currently waiting for the midwife to book me in after self referring on the app!

27andcounting · 20/01/2024 19:19

@Catmumma2 oh dear, hope it eases quickly for you, I'm been fairly lucky this past week lots of nausea but no actual sick unless you count you little bits when brushing my teeth 🙈

@mumto1girlie yay welcome, when is you little ones birthday? Mine will be 4 in the October seems unreal and everything feels so different this time without Covid and furlough.

OP posts:
mumto1girlie · 20/01/2024 20:30

@27andcounting aww thank you! she’s tbe 3rd of octoberC what about your little one? i know how crazy is it with no masks, no fears, just so much more relaxed! i’m hoping this time i can have my mum there as well as hubby cus it was so hard first time round having it all taken away!

27andcounting · 21/01/2024 19:58

@mumto1girlie mine is 27th. Absolutely hubby is super excited about getting to experience the scans this time as he missed our last time just the private one we had. When are you planning on telling your DD?

OP posts:
mumto1girlie · 21/01/2024 23:31

@27andcounting aww that’s so sweet isn’t it cus the first time round wasn’t fair on the men! we went for a couple private last time just so he could attend, this time he could then again due to his job! i’m not telling her until i’ve had a scan and know everything is okay! we do say, would you like to be a sister but we get NO back lol what about you?? xx

Puddingpie1234 · 25/01/2024 11:11

@Catmumma2 Hi, just reading this thread & came across that you have ITP! I also have ITP and have never come across anyone else of similar age that also does so I thought I'd comment.
I am now around 5 weeks pregnant with my 2nd.
Just wanted to give you a little reassurance that ITP didn't really affect my pregnancy at all - only thing I did have to do was cancel my honeymoon as it was classed as a higher risk to fly long distance as I wasn't allowed Fragmin.
You'll probably find that you will get a nominated consultant who will work with your haematologist and nearing the end of your pregnancy, you'll be in for regular platelet counts. My platelets started to drop around 37 weeks, so they called me in to induce me at 38 weeks, before they dropped even further. I ended up with a C-section at which was absolutely fine - no problem at all.
Do you know what your platelet count is?
I remember platelets needed to be a certain level for an epidural etc, so they might discuss alternate pain relief for you. Hope all goes well :)

Catmumma2 · 25/01/2024 18:03

Hi @Puddingpie1234 thanks so much for replying. I’ve never met anyone before either with ITP. It was by chance I found out I had it whilst at university as I went in for a blood test for something else and it flagged my low platelets. Explained my crazy bruising that I aways had! That’s great it didn’t really affect you that much. That’s worrying you had to cancel your honeymoon as I’m due to get married in Santorini in June! Hoping as it is a short flight it should all be fine. Wasn’t anticipating this happy surprise! My platelet count usually stays in the 80s and last test it was 89 I believe. Thanks for your support!
