Anybody had sickness in one pregnancy and not another?

Honestly it’s what’s always put me off a third, the fact that each time so far the sickness has been worse. Second pregnancy I was throwing up multiple times a day, bedbound, spent the whole first 14ish weeks miserably crying in bed. I know I’m lucky that it eased up and much have it far worse.

I have just found out I’m pregnant again and my youngest is just about to turn one. He is so super clingy to me I can’t imagine having to parent the worlds clingiest child being how poorly I was last pregnancy! Luckily my eldest will be at school during the day.

So my question is, those that have had multiple pregnancies did you at all have varying degrees of sickness with each of them? Or any of you lucky enough not to have it at all? Or dare I ask did it get worse? 🤮

Suffered hg with my first. Sick multiple times a day right up until he was born. Anti sickness tablets did nothing except make me constipated so didn’t end up taking them just suffered on. Now pregnant with baby two and I’ve been sick again. Currently 25 weeks and no sign of it stopping yet the midwives and consultants have been so much better giving me a cocktail of different medications to ease the sickness and prevent constipation. Speaking to them right away and keep going back whenever something wasn’t working for me they’ve got me on a good combination now that I’m only sick once a day before I get a chance to take the medication. Definitely speak to your midwife team and let them know you’ve got a toddler already and need something to work for you

I have had 3. My first I couldn’t do anything for being sick. Second was better. Thirs is best yet. I still feel nausea but I am mostly able to avoid being actually sick by eating constantly and avoiding getting too hot which are my main triggers.

look at family history really bad pregnancy sickness in my family every woman on my mothers side every pregnancy.I had it with both pregnancy's needed medication

Was terribly sick up until 20 weeks with my first, and then was vomiting maybe 1-2 times a week until I gave birth. With my second, I was very sick up until 18 weeks and then I felt great! So I think every pregnancy is different... I really hope you aren't sick this time around, it's truly awful x

My first I had sickness, second absolutely nothing at all, third really bad nausea but only sick once. So totally different, all of them are girls

I had HG in my first pregnancies that didn’t respond to medication. One late loss. Then with DD I had a few easier weeks in late second trimester, but found late pregnancy tough. Given that it had taken us years to have a healthy baba, we decided to risk it, and I’ve a 16 month age gap between Dd1&2. Second pregnancy I was unwell - but was SOO much more in control (despite having a 1 year old!). Didn’t do meds - instead did the odd trip for IV hydration. But that’s because I’d say I had “normal” pregnancy sickness rather than HG!

Currently 36 weeks and unfortunately this one’s been tough enough sickness wise - but less scary as I know what I need/feel less guilt! I’ve been on meds which have helped and managed a pattern in hospitalizations (usually going in for IV fluids and meds late at night on an thurs after work/getting the little ones into bed). Ill be very glad to no longer be pregnant - but honestly despite on paper being as sick as #1 it hasn’t felt as hard (bar the lovely moment when my two year old decided to learn to open the front door for the first time, while I had my head over the loo, and left the house in a nappy and t shirt 😂). I found pregnancy sickness support UK brilliant - and used the info in the medication ladders to find a balance that worked for me. (And took annual leave from work in what I hoped would be my worst weeks! 9-11, ended up needing a few days after that too but not much and again I think being somewhat rested going into the worst weeks helped them feel less overwhelming).

I had hyperemesis in first pregnancy, at 6 weeks i was hospitalised due to it. Awful!

Second pregnancy though..no sickness whatsoever.

This has given me so much reassurance. I had HG with my daughter as it was the worst time of.my life. Nearly refused to have another. Now 5 weeks pregnant and whilst it's amazing not being sick yet and no nausea at all, I'm terrified it means something is wrong! I don't have any symptoms except a headache.

L00k4m3x · 09/03/2024 19:21

@emilyejm I hope it stays that way for you!! ❤️🤞🏻

Mine unfortunately kicked in at 6 weeks and I did spend a horrific month bed-bound but luckily around 11 weeks it massively eased and I’m now 14 weeks and haven’t been sick since about 10 weeks. I’m in shock as I was much more poorly for much longer with my second. It just proves each pregnancy is different!

I hope so. Got an early scan booked in at 8 weeks as I'm worried 😟 especially after being so sick the first time and then this time nothing but maybe it's still to come!

I did exactly the same. At 10 weeks i had another scan as i still didnt trust the zero symptoms compared to extreme first pregnancy. It has turned out to be a boy and first was a girl, so maybe the gender has an influence on pregnancy symptoms???

Giggorata · 10/03/2024 08:54

Yes I was sick as a dog throughout the day with #1.
No sickness but fierce heartburn with #2.

emilyejm · 10/03/2024 09:05

This has made me feel so much better. Thank you for sharing. My first HG was a first too 😊

emilyejm · 10/03/2024 09:25

**girl

WriMum22 · 11/03/2024 06:34

#1 and #2 was only ever sick once, had bad nausea from weeks 7 till 13 but nothing too debilitating.

#3 however, was a truly awful pregnancy, had HG which started at week 7 right through to week 24 at which point it just lingered as constant nausea till I gave birth. I was hospitalised twice with dehydration, it was so bad that I find the thought of being sick now really triggering.

First two pregnancies were boys and my third was a girl so I was told that my HG was probably due to gender.
