Wondering when in your pregnancy did you start buying baby stuff? I don't want to buy too soon but also don't want a panic leaving it til a month before

30 weeks for me both times. Never felt right any earlier. Also made the pregnancy feel very nice and short!

We started after 26 weeks and I'm now 33 weeks and we have everything.

chillin12 · 02/01/2024 01:35

I think we started when I was 34 weeks! It doesn't take long, just a couple of days, largely because a lot of stuff can be ordered online.

Congratulations and good luck 🥰

We started buying for my dd when she got past 6 months. Same as when I was pregnant with her.
Didn't buy the cot until dgc was born as she had a moses basket at first.

essentials at around 32 weeks.

everything else I bought whenever my fave brands would go on sale.

We did loads of research and added things to shopping baskets but didn't buy anything apart from the buggy until 30 weeks

For our first we started buying around Christmas during sales for the bigger items - he was due in March. This time round brought few outfits after 20 week & crib again just before Christmas - baby is due in March again! Less bigger items to buy this time round so it’s been an easy one to navigate 😆

With my first - after 12 week scan. Now I’m pregnant with DC2, I’m largely ready mainly because DC1 is only 4 and I have a lot of his stuff left over. Did get a wardrobe, dresser and cot at 15 weeks this time because it was second hand and immaculate. Whenever you feel safe, you can prepare for baby.

PointyMcguire · 02/01/2024 09:31

I refused to buy anything until we’d at least passed 24 weeks and viability. In the end I think we bought most big things around the 32 week mark and then other bits and bobs as we went along.

AndThatWasNY · 02/01/2024 09:34

We got everything secondhand from 25 weeks. Saved ourselves a few £1000 compared to our friends. This meant I could have longer mat leave that otherwise.

Around 26-30 weeks we started buying things. We’d looked around and done some research beforehand to decide on what we actually wanted so it was just a case of ordering everything. Large items take up so much space so you don’t want to start too soon or you’ll just be trying to store it all for ages ahead of baby’s arrival!

If there's something your going to need at a good price in the sale, buy it and put in a cupboard. We also got given quite a few bits and pieces, but no to closer to the end. Didn't buy anything new/full price until the last few weeks, but by then I was just filling in the gaps.
