Hi,

ive just found out I’m 5 weeks pregnant. I’m having a crown fitted on Wednesday and wondered if I needed to tell the dentist I’m pregnant?

someone I know works as a receptionist at the dentist and I’d rather not have it as public knowledge this early on.

any advice would be greatly appreciated,

thank you!

She wouldn’t be able to tell anyone, but you need to tell the dentist. But it’s all confidential

Tell them, your dental treatment is free when pregnant

I told mine last time after our transfer that I "might" be pregnant. They changed the anesthetic. (Didn't implant but at least I had tried to be safe.)
We've had another (successful) transfer and I've got to make another appointment now to get checked. I will let them know then as well. There's usually a form to fill in but I don't think anyone can then just go round and tell anyone about your pregnancy.

You should, but if your friend is on reception it’s possible they might see the records. If NHS they will know if you tick the pregnant box. If private you pay regardless.
The things to be wary of (not completely forbidden but you and dentist need to discuss):
Local anaesthetic - the one with lignocaine and adrenaline is fine
Amalgam- not applicable at a crown fit
X rays - not likely to be needed at crown fit.

So if you don’t want to disclose and are paying privately, just ask what local anaesthetic (if any) they are using.

BTW dental receptionists are supposed to keep confidentiality! But if you know her personally I can see it’s awkward

You definitely don’t want to delay having the crown fitted, that would be inappropriate
