Help! Can't choose a steriliser

Everyone is recommending me something different! A lot of people have said to do Milton cold water and a lot have said to get a steam one. I'll be bottle feeding if that makes any difference. Does anyone have any recommendations? Baby will be here soon and it's the last thing I've got left to buy

I used the Avent microwave steriliser and was very happy with it. I would find the Milton method too faffy.

rosydreams · 27/12/2023 20:27

the milton one good if you go on holiday but otherwise to much of a faff .Avent electric sterilizer was fantastic

App13 · 27/12/2023 20:30

I bought a second hand one off ebay, its still running string after 2 yrs.
It allows 6 bottles, steriliser, drying facility.

Brand:minbie

I found Milton the easiest and no faff at all. Just fill the steriliser and pop your bits in, get them out when needed. A lot of other sterilisers aren’t sterile once you open, so have to sterilise again.
The only thing with Milton is that it takes 15 minutes before it’s all sterile.

veeolay · 27/12/2023 22:54

I didn't have one, I used Mam bottles and dummies that self sterilise in the microwave and never needed anything else!

PickledScrump · 27/12/2023 23:00

Tommee tippe microwave one, about £13. Don’t have to use tommee tippee bottles with it. Dead easy to use. You don’t need to re sterilise as pp suggested. Don’t bother with electric ones, waste of money.

Peachyscream · 27/12/2023 23:01

The MAM self sterilising bottles. I did get a little steamer from Amazon for my breast pump bits

Hayzl · 27/12/2023 23:43

I remember Milton stinking!

Get a plug in steriliser, they are simple and easy.

I ordered a swanky microwave one and when baby arrived and I came to use it, guess what? It was too big for the microwave!

Although as pp said, mam stuff doesn't need any extras to sterilise.

Mamathebest · 28/12/2023 02:46

Loved having a UV sterilised with my second. Could sterilise it all in under 2 mins. Never had to worry about sterilising bottles if I forgot and baby was being impatient.

Kittylala · 28/12/2023 03:08

Boiling water worked for us!

riotlady · 28/12/2023 07:22

I liked Milton, not a faff at all. Water and tablet is good for 24 hours, stick the bottles in, take one out when you’re ready to use

cornonthesnob · 28/12/2023 10:03

Also recommend the Milton cold water steriliser. No faff, cheap, doesn't need electricity.

Or you can just fill a clean sink with Milton tablets and cold water.

No need for these heated / steam / laser ones. Milton cold water one is just as affective and cheaper!

App13 · 28/12/2023 10:23

To note i did the Milton cold water thing for 6 months and it was a faff... I had a vat to fill with water , which was heavy , I had a c section and couldn't sometimes pick the thing up ,and some days I didn't have the energy to change the water.
Which you're meant to do daily .

InTheRainOnATrain · 28/12/2023 10:28

Another vote for Mam self sterilising bottles + dummies.

The milton thing is a complete faff, the chemical smell is 🤢☠️ I only did it for once on holiday when I was without access to a microwave and for the next holiday I bought a cheap electric one off amazon instead.

rebecca100 · 28/12/2023 10:31

I use the MAM microwave steriliser. We also have the MAM self sterilising bottles, which are great if out visiting people or if you only have a couple to do. I find it too fiddly to sterilise like that day to day.

Used to have the electric Tommee Tippee, but it was awful and I returned well after the date allowed as it just wasn't fit for purpose.

AVeryPregnantXmas · 28/12/2023 11:14

Thanks everyone!

Definitely won't be doing Milton as not interested in anything that's a faff. I have already bought the Mam bottles but don't have a microwave to use the self sterilising so thinking now a steam one is the way to go.

@AVeryPregnantXmas if you mean an electric steam one avoid the tommee tippee electric one. Mine was a fire hazard. It wouldn’t turn itself off sometimes so would end up out of water and still going.

I’d probably just get a microwave. I also found it really handy for weaning as I used to do a batch of purée, freeze in ice cube trays then pop in the microwave to reheat. Also stuff like ready brek in the morning. Small portions of veggies when they’re toddlers. Etc. Never had one pre kids but it gets daily use now!

Mine also wasn't actually sterilising bottles! Thought it was quite quick one day so i timed it and it was no where near how long it said it should take. Definitely would avoid this one.

OP id buy a microwave if you have room and the MAM bottles that self sterilise x

OopsieeDaisy · 29/12/2023 08:20

Another vote for the Milton steriliser. It’s not a faff at all - fresh water and tablet each morning and then just stick bottles in and take them out as required throughout the day.

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 29/12/2023 08:39

I used the Milton cold water steriliser too and I didn't find it a faff but I don't have anything else to compare it to. I'll be using the same again this time round
