19 weeks and no movement yet

I’m 19 weeks today and still not noticed any movement. This is my first baby and I’ve read that can be normal, but people keep asking now have I felt anything and I haven’t 🙁

How much longer do I have to wait?!

There can be a huge amount of variation at when you feel movement. And you can be later with your first so try not to worry. You have your anomaly scan soon so you'll be able to see baby moving about during that. With my first I had an anterior placenta so couldn't feel much at all, and only got the odd movement from about 22 weeks onwards. Second time round now and my placenta is posterior this time and I feel so much more movement.

I could have wrote this myself not too long ago! When I had a scan at 16 weeks the sonographer told me I had a posterior placenta and said ‘you should start to feel movement over the next couple of weeks’ and I got to 20 weeks and hadn’t felt a thing. I was worried especially as with a posterior placenta you’re generally meant to feel them a bit earlier (I know not always)

Had my 20 week scan and baby boy never kept still which reassured me - I felt movement that very evening. I’m 26 weeks now & it’s still really sporadic but I’ve been checked and baby is all good!

I know it’s hard but try not to overthink it. Especially if it’s your first it will take longer.

24 weeks with mine. She was back to back. Always struggled to hear her heartbeat at appointments too.

First baby (pregnancy) here - 17 weeks for me but my placenta is posterior and I'm a little underweight - there really is huge variation - up to 24 weeks but usually it should kick in (sorry about the pun) in the next week I think. 😊

Maybe I’m just being impatient 😬 I’ve got a sizeable bump now and I want some feeling to go with it! It’s good to read others having the same experience. On my scan at 16 weeks baby was all over the place. Got my 20wk next Wednesday, so hopefully it’s still doing the same!! Thank you all 🤗

Anterior placenta here and it was really week 22 I was sure I was feeling something!

week 24 the real movements and kicks got going. X

Plumful · 26/12/2023 15:05

It’s normal, don’t stress! Long way to go yet.

Kirstylvsya · 26/12/2023 15:07

Normal placenta here and was about 21/22 weeks before I felt anything and that was second baby x

shivawn · 26/12/2023 15:08

Totally normal, I felt my first around 18-19 weeks and had no movements with my second until after 22 weeks, both healthy babies. There's quite a wide range of normal, I'm sure you'll start feeling your baby anytime in the next few weeks.

lljkk · 26/12/2023 15:19

4th baby I didn't think I felt movements until at least 23 weeks, then after he was born, I thought I could still feel him in there, so fundamentally I think some of us are useless at knowing difference between gurgles & actual fetus.

Anyway, 19 weeks is super early imho.

annonymousse · 26/12/2023 15:29

On average first baby is about 20 weeks but as pp have said if you have an anterior placenta it may take longer. At our trust if no movements by 24 weeks you will be scanned again but no concerns before that.

readingismycardio · 26/12/2023 15:34

Anterior placenta and I felt first move at 20+3! Don't worry, OP!

FlyOnTheWall89 · 26/12/2023 18:31

@SquashPenguin I didn't feel much until 23-24 weeks x
