Hi there, I've noticed that in the day I'm absolutely tired. First pregnancy, however past two nights I've not been able to sleep but can nap easy in the day? I try not to but I give in. Please someone advise am I doing it wrong?

You should absolutely listen to your body and nap in the day if you need to, growing a human is tiring! Chances are the nighttime insomnia would occur anyway, it’s quite common at different stages of pregnancy. I had it for maybe a week or so in my first pregnancy but it soon passed, hopefully it will be the same for you!

CaribbeanCupcake · 26/12/2023 03:17

How far are you? I'm currently 34 weeks and insomnia has hit big time! Fall asleep ok but awake between 1-2 and don't go back to sleep until gone 5 most nights! Exhausting 😴

Gardenlady543 · 26/12/2023 03:40

I'm another wide awake person, early evening I'm completely exhausted. So I get into bed for 7:30 and fall asleep but now here I am at 3am. All we can do is rest when we can I think. Also how annoying is it when people make comments about how it's preparing us for the baby!

I'm about 5 weeks, oh really? It really is exhausting. This has only been since couple nights. Just hope it's not like this all the time.

I had awful insomnia & just generally unwell first trimester & some of second trimester.Things settled for a while but now back to waking up often through the night.Mother nature getting you ready for the baby! Told my husband it’s going to be a shock to his system as I’m already use to lack of sleep this pregnancy 🤣

@Jeyla1230 if you're only 5 weeks I'm sure this will change. In my 1st trimester I slept all night long plus a nap during the day if WFH or on a day off! 2nd trimester slept normally usually coping without a nap and 3rd I've been as I am now! It's so frustrating some nights but what can you do!? 😩
Luckily I only have a day and a half of work left and then Mat leave starts so least I don't have to worry about getting up to an alarm!

oh really? I'm guessing there's a possibility mine will get worse 😫. I'm not sure if it's because I've stopped smoking? I've not had a cigarette for two days(only found out recently I am pregnant). Or because I stayed somewhere different for two days? I may be just overthinking everything 😂. Last night sleep was horrendous 😴.

It's weird only few days ago I could sleep all night and nap I day but now I struggle to sleep at night.

Ooo nice 🥰good luck with everything 💕

@Jeyla1230 are you quite early on? I have been ok for most of pregnancy but I'm right at the end now and getting this now. I would hope it would settle down for you soon :)

Yeah I am about 5 weeks, thank you 😊 I think probably being on my phone at silly o clock as can't sleep don't help. But it's so hard to sleep.

How you feeling? X

@Jeyla1230 oh my "leave the phone in another room" went out the window in pregnancy. I take over the counter nytol every night (I have had fertility issues and in USA the specialists use this as part of an at home antihistamine protocol) and then I scroll TikTok until I fall asleep. I'm doing well thanks :) , c section is now 10 days away. Have you got a scan booked? I went at 6.5 weeks to ultrasound direct.

Ooo ok I've not heard of that (I'm from UK). So happy it's all going OK 😊. Oh tiktok is something else. Luckily haven't been on it today but could go on it for hours 😂. I haven't. I don't know how all this works? Someone says can book midwife through docs then someone says can do it online?. Its all so much if I'm honest bit overwhelming.

@Jeyla1230 I'm in the UK too but I've been on quite a lot of international groups as I've had a lot of fertility treatments. Ultrasound direct have clinics throughout the UK, you can book scans on their website, it's a good idea to have one at 6.5 weeks to check it's a viable pregnancy (in the correct position etc), otherwise you'll wait until 12 weeks for the NHS one. Registering with the midwife is different depending on where in the UK you are, I called the GP and asked the receptionist how to do it in my area and they gave me a number to call where I left a voicemail and someone called me back, but my friend sorted hers online (she's in a different area). I think they try to get you in for booking at around 10 weeks.

Ahh ok thank you so much any information I'm very grateful for. I habe bicornuate uterus so I'm presuming ill need to do it ASAP so can check the baby is in the right position. I'll ring receptionist tomorrow see what they say, this is probably most simplest thing but for me it's alot. Probably sounds silly.

@Jeyla1230 it's a minefield, we can't be expected to know how to get registered, especially when it's a different process everywhere. Ah yes with your uterine issue it would be good to get in for a scan early, you'll probably have to arrange it privately though. You don't get much from the NHS.

@Jeyla1230 I would just do one early viability scan for reassurance, it's £75 with ultrasound direct, there will be other places near you that offer them as we. As I've been very anxious I've done throughout the pregnancy. I got the two standard scans on the NHS and as I was under consultant led care I had an extra 3 but they're all in the third trimester. I would imagine they will put you under consultant care too, you don't see them until quite late on though.
