Struggling with nausea and Vomitting

Hi everyone,
I'm 11 weeks pregnant and expecting my first child (my first pregnancy was a miscarriage), and I feel I am really struggling with the nausea and vomitting. I vomit around twice a day but each episode leaves me feeling so rough, drained and lethargic in between, that I don't know what to do. I don't feel like eating anymore because I'm scared of vomitting. But at the same time, I still have an appetite and want to eat. Then I feel down about not being able to eat properly and the consequences of it. If anyone can give me any advice or reassurance, I'd be really grateful.

I called the doctors as soon as my vomiting kicked in for anti sickness meds and they worked wonders. No point suffering when they can help you. Try that if you haven't already, they can combine a few if they don't work. Fingers crossed it improves for you!

Yikes. Poor you. I had that awful thing that Kate Middleton had and it was horrific (and untreated/ignored of course because of not being royal!).

I did find that nibbling on a dry cracker or ginger nut biscuit alleviated it, but only while I was nibbling. Literally tiny nibbles or just a crumb in my mouth. I could also tolerate tiny tiny morsels of walnuts and oranges.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

Your doctor wouldn’t prescribe you anti sickness tablets because you weren’t royal?

So when my nausea and vomitting first started, I spoke to my doctor. He thought I wasn't vomitting enough to warrant prescribing anti-sickness meds. He recommended I try conservative measures first like ginger biscuits. But the thing is, I feel like the effect of the ginger biscuit doesnt last too long, and I need to keep topping up.

Mostly I just feel totally rubbish and im just staying in bed all day and not really feeling like doing much. So theres an emotional component to it as well.

Honestly, I'd lie. In fact, I did lie. Said I couldn't keep anything down at all. He's going against the royal college of obstetricians and gynaecologists' guidance.

My GP gave me anti sickness tablets, they will give you them just for the nausea alone even if your not being sick. Your doctor does not sound very good.

Ginger biscuits are NOT a remedy for pregnancy sickness and I would be finding a new doctor if they had said that to me.

Nothing actually worked for my pregnancy sickness, not even the sickness tablets but luckily I did start feeling better at around 16-18 weeks.

@Hotmalibu94 may I ask which meds you were prescribed? And do they know if they’re 100% safe for the baby?

pregnancy sickness support has emotional and practical support.

I can only sympathise. I was sick and nauseous to 18 weeks in both my pregnancies and juggled a cocktail of anti sickness drugs. My advice is to make sure you stay hydrated, even if it means just allowing ice cubes to melt in your mouth. If you do become dehydrated, go to A&E and they are likely to admit you for rehydration and anti emetics.

@Fziar , if it's any comfort, I took cyclizine tablets, IV cyclizine (in hospital), ondanestton, avomine (sea legs), stremitil and metroclopromide in my pregnancies. My dc are 12 and 15 now, and have been totally unaffected by these drugs.

Sorry, that was meant for @Hotmalibu94

Hotmalibu94 · 24/12/2023 18:21

@giraffesauce Im on cyclizine and yes safe for baby or else doctors wouldn't prescribe it for morning sickness :)

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads not sure it was meant for me 😅 I've been on cyclizine for ages I have no concerns, was it meant for the poster I mentioned above? Luckily cyclizine alone has helped me, sorry yours was so severe!

Cyclizine has been prescribed for vomiting in pregnancy in many countries for several decades with no evidence of ill effects
