Heartburn and indigestion relief ideas

Hi everyone,

Currently 13 weeks pregnant with my second, and I can feel the indigestion creeping in.

With my first I had the most chronic heartburn, probably consumed a packet of Rennies a week, and slept upright for about 6 months.

I’m anticipating this will be much the same and already dreading it. I’ve had a few Rennies already and I just can’t stomach them anymore, they make me gag. I’ve tried gaviscon tablets (almost vomited, never again) and there is absolutely no way I would be able to do the liquids. I hate peppermint and aniseed and they are the only flavours I can seem to find. The orange Rennies were my saving grace first time round but it seems that now that’s no an option either.

Does anyone have suggestions for chronic heartburn and indigestion? I’ve heard doctors can prescribe ranitidine but would they really give you like a 6 month course? Because that’s what I would need..

Thanks in advance.

Sorry you are going through this. I find Gaviscon liquid more effective than Rennies but appreciate that is a non starter. Have you tried Tums? The flavours are nice, more fruity than all the mint stuff.

I have the same problem, sounds weird but love heart sweets help a little bit. Also a glass of milk. The doctor can prescribe omeprazole which is where I’m heading soon as Gaviscon doesn’t really touch it for me!

You need a prescription for omeprazole. I'm always surprised by the number of women who suffer throughout their pregnancy without one!

I think Ranitidene is now not prescribed which is a shame as it really helped in pregnancy

Supermarket heartburn relief tablets come in orange (certainly Asda) but they are only temporary

I think Omeprozole maybe you best best. Supermarkets and Boots do their own version of Nexium (Esomeprozole) at a fraction of the price, but obviously you will need to run it by your GP or midwife with being OG

Like @calishire said, ask for omeprazole. It’s life changing.

I was told I couldnt take my prescription meds that I would normally take until 14 weeks so I've been taking gaviscon liquid or gaviscon extra tablets rennie weren't really doing it for me.

Get prescription meds, game changer. Unfortunately the ones I took have been withdrawn but others are available
