Covid booster - haven’t had GP referral

Hi all,

I’m 10 weeks’ pregnant and had my flu injection at 6 weeks.

My GP surgery invited me to have the flu jab pretty much directly after I notified them I was pregnant. Nothing on the Covid vax and I assumed wasn’t eligible - I’ve had all 3 eligible doses in the past. At my booking in appointment at 8 weeks, the midwife checked that I had three doses and the flu jab and didn’t say anything about a booster either.

Only just realised that the autumn booster campaign includes pregnant women of all stages as part of the “clinical risk” group. Does this mean I should try and get mine done by end December? it all seems a bit weird / disorganised messaging, as not really advertised very well and my GP / midwife not really mentioning it?

If you are entitled to it, you can book it online just like everyone else who is entitled.

Yazoop · 20/12/2023 15:48

Thanks. Don’t think you can book online anymore - though seems to be some walk in sessions. Wasn’t sure if you needed a referral for those but it couldn’t hurt to turn up I suppose.

NHS website doesn't allow to book anymore as it's walk in appointments if eligible.

The NHS just says the service has stopped for this year but will open again next year.

I would ring the GP surgery and ask

I wasn’t offered the covid booster until I went in for the flu jab when they asked if I wanted it

NoItsStillNighttimeDarling · 20/12/2023 16:01

It's really strange - I was in the same position and no one mentioned it to me, but I saw on the campaign that pregnant women were being advised to have the jab. I went to one of those walk in places and told them I was pregnant and they said that was fine and did it then and there

My hospital has someone in who does all vaccines. It's on the maternity unit. She comes in and does the COVID, flu and whooping cough one for anyone who wants it so may be offered at your hospital. When I went for my scan, she came into the waiting room and asked if anyone wanted to be vaccinated. I was asked at my booking appointment (but whopping cough is after 16 weeks) . Worth asking your midwife.

I went to a walk in clinic and told them I was pregnant and got covid and flu vaccines. I’m in Scotland but don’t think it makes a difference. I had originally asked my midwife if she arranged them and she said just go to a walk in clinic at a time good for me.

I went to our local chemist, but I'm in Northern Ireland, might be different.

RuthW · 20/12/2023 20:20

Some gp surgeries don't provide them (we don't) you are entitled to it, just go to a walk in session.

Ttcmumma · 20/12/2023 20:57

I don't personally want the COVID vaccine as it messed me up abit last time but I have been receiving tests recently about going in for a COVID booster. Just says I'm invited for it and to book in. I'm east London, not sure if it varies per area x

Texts not tests!
