5 or 6 weeks and unbelievably tired

Hello, I'm either 5 weeks + 6 or 6 weeks - no children yet but have had an ectopic and a chemical. I know fatigue is normal this early but I'm actually finding it so hard to sit down and work when I'm home, and generally I keep falling asleep.

I stopped drinking coffee as soon as I found out I was pregnant just as I'd be more likely to go over the caffeine limit (still having chocolate and the odd diet coke) so maybe it's that- but it's been over a week now!

How did you cope? What level of tired is normal?

Waited for the second trimester and went to bed early 😂 sorry there's not much more advice other than to just ride it out! Things start being a bit less exhausting around 12 weeks. It's normal to be like that I went to be at about 6pm every night and never thought I'd not be tired again haha

BlueberryVelvet · 20/12/2023 14:53

Yep waited it out here too.

Ive never felt tiredness like it. My bone marrow felt tired it was so bad.

Get loads of sleep, your body needs it for all the hard work it's doing. I was shattered in my first trimester - could nap on and off all day if I wasn't working

Rocknrollstar · 20/12/2023 17:52

One of the first symptoms of pregnancy. I remember going on a business trip to Wales for the day and thinking I wasn’t going to manage to get home. The tiredness should wear off in a few weeks.

tarheelbaby · 20/12/2023 17:55

First time around, I remember feeling overwhelming sleepiness which, in retrospect, I chalk up to hormones. I wasn't fatigued but impossibly drowsy.

Others mention fatigue and a friend felt it so strongly she went for an early scan and found ... twins ...

Exactly in the same boat. 5 weeks + 6 and sooo tired. Barely did anything in work today but stare at a screen, if I didn’t have a crazy 1 year old puppy I’d be fore sure napping

Thankyouthankyoujellybean · 20/12/2023 20:18

The first 12 weeks are so unbelievably tiring. I found it fluctuated a little though - you might get a break soon.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 20/12/2023 20:22

Nap every day

justanotherlaura · 20/12/2023 20:53

I napped in my lunch hour every day, the joys of working from home! I was also in bed by 8pm every night. It does let up after the first trimester so hopefully you'll be feeling less tired soon!

IVFfirsttimer91 · 20/12/2023 20:56

My tiredness has only just started to go away and I’m at 27 weeks!! It absolutely knocked me for 6 in the first trimester though. I had a sleep on my lunch break, took regular walks outside for a couple of mins to get some fresh air and was in bed early!

Rawroink · 20/12/2023 21:04

Having been in the armed forces whilst pregnant (nurse) and not given a minute to rest (not relevant but job was exhausting)…
I had to just think when you make a cake,
the first bit is getting all the ingredients out so it’s complicated and checking everything so it’s time consuming (first trimester)
next bit is putting all together, less stressful, it’s all coming together (second trimester)
next bit bung in oven and wait (third trimester)
next bit enjoy everything you made and tidy up (forever)

the exhaustion In the beginning is redonculus

Sodapop1 · 20/12/2023 22:02

The tiredness is so awful OP, I sat down at a screen all day but felt so exhausted by 7pm my bones were aching. All you can do it ride it out really, I was feeling more energetic by 10 weeks and fine by about 14 weeks. I think the progesterone specifically causes the drowsiness as well and once your placenta is developed this will ease off.

GreyDuck · 20/12/2023 22:15

Insanely tired. I was in bed early every night, and remember the worst weekend where I slept for something like 16hours. It got better by 2nd trimester, but I never had the mythical burst of energy I was looking forward to.

Screwballs · 20/12/2023 22:19

21 weeks, I've taken to daily naps! They say second trimester you start feeling human, I assume that only applies to sickness because otherwise I call bull poop. The fact I'm awake now is testament to two hours kip earlier and a cup of tea an hour ago.

2preg · 20/12/2023 23:33

I'm 5+2 and I'm exhausted too, 10 hour shifts on my feet for the whole time ain't helping much either 😅

Junebughustle · 21/12/2023 17:45

Thanks for the reassurance!

Love the cake analogy @Rawroink!

Congratulations to all in the same phase! Looking forward to a bit more energy!
