When did your placenta take over

What week did yours take over. I'm now in week 10. It's hard to know when it might have taken off when I've had zero symptoms this whole pregnancy
I'm curious when placenta is up and working

I'm not really understanding what you're asking. When the placenta takes over is not something you feel.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/12/2023 00:28

I'm also confused about what you're asking?

WandaWonder · 20/12/2023 00:28

What?

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 20/12/2023 00:30

I have never heard this before.
Is it a thing?

Inkypot · 20/12/2023 00:31

Sorry OP I'm also not sure what you mean. It isn't something you feel or notice, it just something that forms when you're pregnant and that's about all I know. Are you asking if you have a placenta at the moment? Cos yes you will have as far as I know.

TheShellBeach · 20/12/2023 00:32

About week 12.
If you've never had many symptoms you won't notice their disappearance.

I think the OP is asking when the placenta takes over from the yolk sac.

Inkypot · 20/12/2023 00:33

Is this what you mean? It becomes the main source of nutrients between 8 to 12 weeks according to this.
I googled it cos you got me curious.

Hi yes I'm wondering if anyone knows what week the placenta forms in pregnancy.

I think it’s an interesting question.
It’s more serious to drink early doors because it adversely affects the growing cells whereas later on the placenta filters out some of it. Whereas smoking isn’t so much of an issue early on but the affect on the placenta means smoking in later pregnancy is problematic.
When do we even grow a placenta? I can’t remember being told this.

Stargazer03 · 20/12/2023 00:36

Yes thankyou that's what I was asking when it takes over as nutrient source for baby. Sorry I should have phrased it better lol

You still won't feel the difference, pregnancy symptoms or not. You wouldn’t even know if you had an anterior placenta until it was diagnosed at a much later scan.

SH998 · 20/12/2023 05:40

By 12 weeks your placenta should have taken over fully, I was informed this by my IVF clinic. It’s not something you would feel happening, I was pretty much symptomless too, in fact I’m 26 weeks pregnant and still have very few symptoms but baby is strong and healthy :)

Good luck on the rest of your pregnancy x

My sickness suddenly stopped at 14 weeks exactly. Not sure when before this it fully takes over but I assume not too long. Everyone can be slightly different though, most symptoms tend to disappear at the end of the first trimester.

Inmydreams88 · 20/12/2023 13:39

I think by or around 12 weeks. I was very sick for the first trimester and my midwife said when the placenta is formed and takes over most people feel less sick after this has happened.
