Hi everyone,

im due my vaccine appointment this week. I’m going to be getting the whooping cough vaccine, and I won’t be getting the Covid one. This is due to myself having a bad reaction to my actual Covid jags and how it messed up my menstrual cycle etc.

my question is: can anyone give me insight on the flu jab please? Pros and cons? From real people? I’ve tried to search and go no avail. FB and even these forums will not let me search for the words flu/flu vaccine :( I’m not against vaccines at all, but I really just want real people to let me know their experience. Thanks so much 🩷

I had the flu jab and whooping cough the same day a few weeks ago. Aside from a sore arm I wouldn't have known I'd had it. Zero side effects x

There’s absolutely nothing to stop you searching for ‘flu jab’ on this forum. There are hundreds of posts, many from pregnant women.

My mother is medical and advises her reluctant parents to get the flu jab over Covid if reluctant but honestly why wouldn't you get the vax that are recommended in pregnancy?

I had flu jab and whooping cough jab. No real side effects other than sore arms. It wasn’t my first time getting the flu jab though. The first time I had that I felt exhausted and a little run down but only lasted a couple of days.

First time getting the flu jab this pregnancy and zero side effects. I had a reaction previously with the Covid jab too but was advised to have it this pregnancy. I did and again had zero side effects and feel a lot happier knowing that I’ve had it. If I caught Covid and something happened to the baby I could never have forgiven myself for ignoring medical advice.

I had the flu jab this year at the start of my 2nd trimester. I didn’t suffer any side effects.

I had flu last Christmas (no flu jab) - I’m in good health but it knocked me out for weeks, including 7 days of 39-40 degree fever and a chest infection. I didn’t fancy that while pregnant.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I've had reactions to both vaccines while not pregnant so wouldn't take the risk while pregnant. I think it's a totally personal decision. Also, medical advice changes a lot - in my last pregnancy, at the start women were advised not to get covid jab, and advice changed when I was about 20 weeks, despite no studies being done including pregnant women. I felt uncomfortable about advice changing so quickly and have no regrets. I did get covid at 33 weeks from my fully vaccinated husband, who was much poorlier than me! I felt fine after 3 or 4 days, just run down, like a bad cold. Hope an extra perspective helps x

I had never had a flu vaccine but got in this year as I’m pregnant. Zero reactions and so far I have avoided any nasty bugs going around. I’ve also had the covid vaccine and whooping cough with no problems.

Hi
I got attacked for a similar response on a similar thread so hopefully people will be a bit more understanding here! I had a horrific reaction to the Covid jab which took me out of work for 6 weeks. I was reluctant to get the vaccines due to this. However the midwife that administered the whooping and flu checked all the ingredients against the covid jab I had, this made me feel much better about getting them. I’ve never had the flu jab previously and wouldn’t have it if I wasn’t pregnant, however she advised that if you get flu when pregnant there is a high chance you will end up in hospital and obviously that brings with it its own concerns so I had it. I had both on the same day with no side effects apart from an achy arm
