Medical reasons C section - when did they tell you / organise?

During my antenatal appointments it has become apparent to the team that I would need a C section for medical reasons. They referred me to the obstetrician for confirming this when I was 20 weeks, now I am 27 weeks and still not heard anything back from that referral.

When did you hear from the obstetrician? What do they normally want to go through? Did you need to follow up yourself?

Aware I have a good 3 months to go just hoping for a plan of action to cover all eventualities.

I was 32 weeks when I was given the appointment to see the consultant at 36 weeks and given the date for the c-section at that appointment. DS2 needed to be born slightly earlier (38 weeks), otherwise the date would have been any time within my 39th week.

34 and 36 weeks (and booked for 36+6 and 38w). I don’t think you need to worry yet. Can you ask at your next consultant app? Mine phoned to book mine when I was in the room.

I didn't meet the obstetrician until 3w before the birth (born at 39w0d) but I did have a brief phone call quite early on (say, 18w?) with a consultant obstetrician but I think that was because I had some unusual things to discuss (previous birth was complicated).

So I only got a confirmed date 3w in advance. However they did give me a 3 day window quite early on, months in advance - they said it'd be between 39w0d and 39w2d. So I could "book" my in laws to visit to look after dc1.

The appt at 36w went really well... I have quite bad medical phobia and the doctor was just fab, handled it all amazingly and didn't rush me when I kept wanting to go over it again.

I had an appointment at 36 weeks and it was booked in for 39 weeks. Is the medical reason one which can also require an early delivery? If so they will probably do regular monitoring, hold of as long as possible then book you in urgently once it becomes needed. If they expect baby will go to term, they'll just leave it until closer to the end, then book it a few weeks before your due.

They like to do them at 39 weeks, before baby has 'dropped'. I was given some antiseptic shower wash to use for the week before, and had a pre-op appointment 2 days before the section date, where they took swabs & talked me through what would happen on the day, when to be there, not to eat before etc.

Appointment at 38 wks, elcs at 39+5

Will depend on the medical reason though. Mine was previous failure to progress ending in an emcs at 41+5, even bigger baby, small pelvis & 'posterior unresponsive cervix'
