Hi MNetters ! I have a 6 week old with reflux-holding him upright is helping at least partially and we are thinking of getting a bouncer to do that for more time (while following guidelines). Baby Bjorn is out of budget but am hoping people can recommend something more budget-ideally within 50 quid but could maybe consider upto 100 quid…ideally should be able to function without a bouncer mode too (stationary). I can see a Red Kite Baya bouncer and a Kinderkraft mimi bouncer which look similar and hoping somebody can share if these are safe and good enough (not too many reviews on Amazon).

I'm also wondering, can a newborn go into the upright modes ? Also how important is having various degrees of recline ?

Thanks in advance…

If you wanted a Baby Bjorn, have you tried looking on Vinted? I have bought so many amazing things for my baby on there, a lot of the stuff has been basically unused but much cheaper than buying it new from the shop. I even got a carrier that was new in its box for half the price.

Baby Bjorn absolutely not worth the money. I've heard the Kindercraft one is a great dupe. That said, no newborns can't go in the more upright positions.

Have you considered a stretchy wrap. A brand called Hana is very good, should be able to find a second hand one on Vinted. This will keep baby more upright.

Do make sure you watch some videos on how to use the wrap/join the Babywearing UK Facebook group and ask for a fit check. It's easy and quick when you know how, but the ladies on there will be able to advise you.

Also look at Hauck Alpha. Mine has reflux and it's been a godsend as she hates being put down, especially after feeds, so I pop her in the seat when I'm getting ready in the morning, in the kitchen etc. it's also great as you can attach it to a highchair so that if you're in the kitchen, they are at eye(ish) level. It has three positions and a newborn insert, so very much good from birth. Got the insert from Vinted, high chair from Amazon with Wishlist discount.

Re. Baby wearing, I found that I can't do this just after feeding as her tummy is too full so might be uncomfortable.

We had a Chicco Hoopla which worked well for us. Baby liked it and much more affordable than the baby bjorn

@aubergineman thanks. Looking into a more structured carrier like the Ergobaby embrace maybe (too scared of ones that need tying up)..

Oh I posted on here hours ago and MN seems to have eaten my reply! We went for the cheapest Argos one that had a toy bar (their very cheapest has no toy bar). This is the one we got:

I found it did help with DS's reflux and he enjoyed being in it.

Will have a look-interesting point in baby wearing. Thought of investing in both-baby wearing is just convenient in general, bouncer for when you can’t baby wear was my thinking…

FWIW, DS just didn't take to being worn at all. We tried two very different carriers (a structured carrier and a wrap) and he hated them both and would struggle and cry in them. I've never heard of another baby where this has happened.
DD on the other hand loved the wrap. But I'm glad my two carriers were gifts, I would have been really upset if I'd spent over £100 on a carrier that DS just didn't want to go in.

ActDottie · 18/12/2023 22:59

We picked up a baby bjorn on Vinted for £30 so if you did want one the second hand market is the best place to look.

Ergobaby are very good. We have the Omni 360 and it's a brilliant carrier. DD now 9 months and 9kg, carrying her is still fine. I've heard the embrace is also good, but shorter lifespan.

The wraps are much less confusing and scary than they look at first, promise!

Iwishiwasasilentnight · 19/12/2023 07:37

Baby Bjorn are very flat. My reflux babies hated them. I got another bouncer from a pass it on site for my second child so I could have one upstairs and this was accepted by DD2.

Bootoagoose123 · 19/12/2023 07:37

Also just to say I just sold my Ergobaby Embrace on vinted in mint condition so definitely second looking on there for bargains! And you can probably sell it on for almost the same money once you've used it!
