How likely is it to go into Labour when baby not engaged?

Hi,

I am 38 weeks and last week the baby's head was engaged by 4/5ths, but this week MW said baby has popped back out again.
DP has gone away for the day/night and I am guessing the chances of going into labour and him rushing home are minimal right?
It doesn't feel as if I am sitting on a baby and whereas last week I was walking like I had riden a horse all day, this week I can walk normally.
Has anyone ever gone into labour when babys head not engaged fully/by alot?
I know I shouldnt be anxious, I am not overly worried, but tell me your experiences!

All replies greatly appreciated!

I went into labour without the baby being engaged

I wasn't fully engaged with my first and I went into labour.

If this is a subsequent pg for you it is likely that the baby won't engage until you are in labour.

So did I - 3 times!
Probably not what you wanted to hear....

apparently dd1 was ballot or free floating when i was 7cm dilated- would have ended in cs had i not started pushing (she decided she didn't need a 10cm gap and made a dash for it! born in two pushes- cue one very surprised midwife!)

Wow.. so I take it that it is still a good idea to be on baby alert then!
This means I have a reason to make my DP stay nearer me as much as possible.
Which actually IS what I wanted to hear!
Thank you so much

You'll be fine. It is unlikely the baby will be early.

Take the chance to sit with your feet up and watch Chick flicks!

I don't think that this is necessarily a bad thing, certainly my mw said it was ok and engagement could happen just before labour. don't panic!

Do we think putting a large towel down under my fitted sheet in case my waters break is a good idea now?
Any tips?
