Apologies for the dumb title, I'm trying to cheer myself up.

Has anyone experienced PROM (premature rupture of membranes, i.e. waters breaking and bugger all happening) and gone on to have normal subsequent births? I've had two, now pregnant with my third and am wondering if there's any hope of going into labour on my own.

My midwife tried to assure me that it would all be different this time and that I wouldn't end up on the horror drip of doom but research seems to suggest that if it happened before it will happen again.

Can anyone shed any light here? I'm 29 weeks and starting to torture myself with dreams of a waterbirth 😆

my first my hind waters went, no contractions and ended up with an induction. My second and third were both spontaneous labours and both were water births. So yes it absolutely can happen, fingers crossed you get your water birth

YES! This is what I needed, thank you. Just one glimmer of hope!

I'm just here as I'm in the same position.
PROM at 28 weeks and DD born at 34 weeks. I would love a water birth this time round too but only 14 weeks at the moment. When I get past 28 weeks I may start to relax.

Waiting for my first appointment for cervix measurements, have you had these?

PROM first time, no issues second time

Thankyouthankyoujellybean · 11/12/2023 12:17

@treehousethunderstorm I haven't, but I only had PROM at 40 and 38+4 - not medically important to anyone but me! It sounds like you had PPROM, which is something that needs attention. Sorry that you've got this hanging over you. I hope the second trimester flies by xxx

@Thankyouthankyoujellybean my waters broke at 38+6 and was given a sweep immediately after and went into labour straight away. I had already been having contractions for about a week so I was ready I think! Has the midwife said they'd offer you one if it happens again?

Thankyouthankyoujellybean · 11/12/2023 14:23

@AnotherStory23 That's interesting - I wasn't offered a sweep either time. I was given 24hrs for labour to start, literally nothing happened, and when I went in I was put on the drip.

@Thankyouthankyoujellybean Ah really, that's so annoying! When I went in to the hospital to confirm my waters had broken I was offered one there and then. Maybe this is something you can discuss with your midwife?

Thankyouthankyoujellybean · 11/12/2023 22:07

Thanks, @AnotherStory23 , I'll raise the question. I wonder why it wasn't offered. Oooh, another glimmer of hope!

Hello, I had PPROM at 32 wks and my son was born at 34 wks. I'm now 12 weeks with my second (and third - twins) 😬 Absolutely crapping it!! I have my first appointment at preterm birth clinic tomorrow. 🤞🏻

Sirrah · 11/12/2023 23:55

I had PROM at 34 wks, contractions stopped and I ended up on a drip, leading to a very fast birth. Baby was fine, if a little shocked and jaundiced. That was my second baby. I went on to have a third, born at 39+3, and had to ask to have my waters broken when I had been in early labour for weeks on and off.
