Best breast pads??

Can anyone tell me which breastpads are best? I have been told that some fall out or leave fluff all over the place?? I also don't really get the difference between pads and the latex shells you can wear??

Any advice??

Pads absorb excess milk, shells don't. I think you need to try a few and go for the ones that feel most comfortable, asit will depend on the shape of your books, how much you leak etc. You get through LOTS (well, I did) so maybe buy a box of a few brands? I would avoid Boots - I found the Avent ones really good.

Bewilderbeast · 14/03/2008 15:35

lansinoh are definately the best

FourPlusOne · 14/03/2008 19:38

I used the tommee tippee ones last time and they were quite good - nice shape and not bulky/visible. Have half a box left so will use them this time too!

In an ideal world I would use the washables, but this was one thing that I had to go disposable for! Used washables in the night, but they do give a real 'fried egg' look to your boobs if worn under a tight top (or any top)

Not tried the lasinoh though so they may be better.

mumofk · 14/03/2008 20:01

Haven't tried them yet but have just bought some lilypadz- they're meant to stop milk coming out- full stop- so no bulky absorbancy to worry about.Meant to be very good for under a nice top/special occasion but the packaging says you can use all the time.
I have some washables left from last time (somewhere!!) so hoping to avoid the 'trying to find my pads/ are they ALL in the wash' moments. Everyone is individual, but of my mates I seemed to have the leakiest boobs with needing pads for a long time ( months) with breastfeeding, so I'm preparing for the long haul.
If your looking at trying a few, tescos and Asda have the cheapest disposable breast pads, 1.73 for 40.
I bought some shells but never used them- even worse than bulky pads for headlight boob look. I don't care about my appearance, but even I couldn't wear them around the house.
anyone out there with experience of lilypadz??
HTH

Tomme tippee. Think they are actually exactly the same as Lasinoh, so either of those really.

Hated the Avent ones.

TheBlonde · 14/03/2008 20:29

tommee tippee are v good - tesco often have them on offer

onepieceoflollipop · 14/03/2008 20:32

Tommee Tippee are great, I agree. They are about £5 a box though, and heavily packaged (individually wrapped) As TheBlonde says you may get them on offer in Tesco - half price a while back.

Cazwa · 14/03/2008 20:42

Hated tommee tippee, hated Lansinoh, mainly for the fact they are individually wrapped and take ages to get out. I love Johnson and Johnson ones, more expensive but v comfortable and dont wrinkle up like the above ones do. Maybe its just my big boobs...

HaventSleptForAYear · 14/03/2008 20:48

Vote for Lansinoh but it's true the individual wrapping is annoying. Don't buy too many in advance, I didn't need any 2nd time round at all and have boxes of them kicking around.

MrsTittleMouse · 14/03/2008 21:20

I have big boobs (was an E cup before first pregnancy, was an H cup when breastfeeding - complete nightmare trying to find BF bras, but I digress). I hated Lansinoh and found that they wrinkled up loads. Wish I hadn't bought in so bloody many. Then I got in a load of Johnsons, which were better. But I found that I didn't really need breast pads at all once we had settled into a routine.

So whatever you decide, don't buy too many!

errmmm my advice is years old and may be frowned on - i used economy sanitary towels cut into 3 they are very absorbent and cut down dont look so bulky -cheap as well- it wasnt thru poverty that i discovered this it ws being 19 and thinking paltry little pads would work ........

susiemj · 14/03/2008 21:24

I think disposable ones are terrible. I bought two boxes (AVent / Boots) but both just screwed up into balls in my bra. Then the local council sent me soem reusables with some free cloth nappies and they're ace. I never would have thought it but they're LOADS better and much more comfortable.

littlelamb · 14/03/2008 21:25

I have been wondering this too. With the Lillypadz though is it really a good thing that they stop milk coming out altogether? WOn't that just mean you are more likely to get a blocked duct/mastitis

ScotGirl · 14/03/2008 22:10

FYI - Tommee Tippee 1/2 price in Tesco at the moment - £2.50 for a box of 50

wahwah · 15/03/2008 06:56

I used Lilypadz as well as washables at night and this worked well. The Lilypadz were great and I can't believe I chucked them, only to get pregnant again!

snookie28 · 15/03/2008 07:50

I loved the tommy tippee ones and my breasts were huge (H cup). I didn't like the fact they were individually wrapped but loved that thery were so flat and didn't show through tight tops.

Unfitmother · 15/03/2008 07:51

I found Johnsons the best.

piggyp · 15/03/2008 10:28

I've just got some washable ones, much more comfy, less sweaty and they stay in place better. Less fiddly too as there is no wrapping. Mine are from the Totnes nappy company.

Alishanty · 15/03/2008 11:34

For disposable ones I found Johnson's the best but they are pricey. I used them to start and then switched to the Avent washable ones, found them cheaper and more comfortable.

BellaBear · 15/03/2008 11:57

I'd like the Lansinoh ones a lot better if they weren't individually wrapped and they didn't have the adhesive bit on the back which doesn't work if you try to use it and is annoying if you leave the backing on.

I'm using Boots own and swapping two or three times a 24-hour period. But if you leak a lot then they do get very balled up and look ridiculous.

Ineedsomesleep · 15/03/2008 12:00

Tommee tippee by far.

jennster · 15/03/2008 12:02

I love the Tommee tippee, if you don't like the adhesive then don't use it! I never have.

Dalrymps · 15/03/2008 12:03

I have quite big boobs and foudnd the lansinoh and boots own thin ones creased and folded so it looked like i had lines on my boobs. I like the johnsons ones cause they're shaped to your boob and are comfortable, it's personal preferance though, can't remember how good the tommee tippee ones were cause I only used em once when I had a free sample.

BellaBear · 15/03/2008 12:36

I find that if I don't use the adhesive then the paper strip gets all bunched up and falls off anyway.
