Hiya,
How many weeks pregnant are you? I have an underactive thyroid & was sent to the 'medical disorders' clinic at the hospital. It's all been fine, -had a few extra blood tests (at 5, 10 & 19 weeks so far, although I'm sure that varies loads), and my dose of thyroxine has been upped a couple of times (from 50mg to 75mg to 100mg). Your body tends to need more thyroxine while pregnant, and Drs try to keep TSH levels lower than usual.

as West says, more freq thyroid checks than usual and it's likely your dose will go up

MWs will often refer you to see the Obs consultant but it should not stop you having MW led care etc

i am 12 weeks pregnant .

my t4 level is spot on but my TSH is slightly high but the docs want me to keep on 150mg of thyroxine .

i asked for mw led care but the doc says i will need to see a consultant.

just a bit nervous about what to expect .

the last time i got my bloods done was 10 weeks .
i go to the hospital for my first scan on thursday so i will probably be given more info then

they just need to keep a check on your thyroid more closely during pg

I saw the endocrinologist during both pgs and also ended up with consultant led care

congrats btw

I developed Hyperthyroidism(overactive)in the first trimester with my Dd in 2006, so I saw an endocrinologist, and was checked often throughout my pregnancy, with blood tests and the like. It's really important that you keep your appointments etc as your thyroid health can affect the unborn baby as well as you.
Good luck.

hi my underactive thyroid was discovered after the birth of my first son in 2004, although i suspected i had it before.
i'm now 24 wks pregnant and on 200mcg and have been from the begining.
As long as you are having blood tests and check ups every 4 - 6 weeks everything will be fine, make sure you chase them up if they try to move your appointment etc as its important to keep on top of it!
Dont worry its just another trip to the clinic or hospital.
take care.

I just had regular blood tests, never saw a consultant of any description, just normal (for this area) midwife, GP and clinic appointments. Never actually needed a change in medication as it turned out, mysterious little beast, the thyroid (actually I suspect mine is dead in the water and pregnancy COULDN'T make it any worse).
