I have already registered with my hospital and had scans however it has came to light through news articles and friends some disturbing information. They have staff shortages , no emergency surgery ( apparently maternity isn't affected) but who can be sure. They've removed neo natal beds and only only have 2 neo natal beds
On a particular ocassion last year the neo natal unit completely closed as had no staff and apparently its been attended to by general nurses and midwives because there's no neo natal nurses available. I'm not comfortable giving birth to my baby here. I had fresh ivf and I'm concerned as I was told they do tend to be premature and I'm also late 30s . I don't feel its a safe environment to give birth it and I'm genuinely concerned about my and my baby's safety. On self referral form it said I can change my mind at any time regarding how I choose to give birth but cannot change hospital. Does anyone know if this is true? Surely if I don't feel safe I should be allowed to give birth in a hospital that I feel safe. Spoke to midwives they assure me it'll be fine blah blah of course they would. Are are bound to contract and aren't going to badmouth their ward

yes. you can change anytime in your pregnancy. find the hospital you want to move there and google self-referral x hospital. if they don't have a self-referral system just call and see how you get on the books. it'll be fine. it happens all the time

Be careful though. The staffing situation you describe is very common across many units. It sounds like more specifically you are worried about a high risk event/need for special baby care, so maybe you do want to be at wherever your tertiary/high risk centre would be. Your community midwife should advise you, i'm sure you can swap, but know that all your hospital appts etc will then be at that unit even if it's a distance
