Hi i need help, i am due 14th December and i was tested positive for Group B strep..
Originally i was being told by all of the midwives throughout my appointments that i would have to go into hospital as soon as labour starts and i start getting contractions but on the last appointment when i asked to double check the midwife said when my contractions are 2 mins apart that is when i need to go in??

I live almost 40 mins away from the hospital and there are many delays along the way due to there being alot of farms and lots of small villages so you are always bound to either get stuck behind a tractor or traffic.. also the weather we have been having could also potentially cause delays as well..

As far as i am aware, you need to have anti biotics atleast 4 hours before delivery to ensure they are effective for both you and the baby but if i am being told to come when my contractions are 2 mins apart wouldnt that be too close??

I even mentioned this to the midwife and she said "yeah 2 mins apart should be fine".. I am absolutely lost please help me i dont want to put my babys life in danger i am scared i might give birth in the car or not get the antibiotics on time and have a sick baby.. i also have gestational diabetes as well

Can you call your labour ward to check? Or when you feel labour starting give them all call, explain the GB and they can tell you whether to wait or go straight in

Have a look at this website - www.gbss.org.uk They are a specialist GBS charity and also have a helpline with great advice. My eldest daughter had GBS sepsis after she was born (i hadnt previously tested + and so didnt get antibiotics after my waters broke.) They gave really good support and im sure they could help you to put the right questions to the midwife.

Also just thinking about it, in my first pregnancy, the rule of thumb was 3 contractions in 10mins, which is about 3.5mins apart. 2mins apart seems very close if you have a 40mins drive - does the midwife realise you live that far from the hospital?

Call the assessment unit/labour ward when your contractions start, I called expecting to be told to call back later. Because of more minor issues (and we were only a few minutes away) they said to pop up. We didn't leave until baby had delivered.

@CrispAppleStrudels thanks for that link i will check it out.. and yeah she knows i live quite far and she even said "taking into consideration how far you live and the weather conditions as well, 2 minutes between contractions would be best" and i even asked her if she was sure and she was like "yeah".. and the consultant was there as well and he was agreeing 🤦🏻‍♀️
I would understand if this was my first baby because it takes ages the first time, which it did for my son (2 days), but this is the second one and i heard the labour for those that come after the first born can be alot quicker

@Richie23 @Hall84 im thinking of giving the birth centre a ring tomorrow as that is where i will be giving birth.. i remember the last time i went when my contractions were 5 mins apart and they sent me home only to have to return to hospital after a couple of hours
