Unsure on what to think about baby's size

So at my 26 midwife appointment (where I was one day off 27 weeks) my fundal measurement was 29cm which took me over 97th centile so they sent me for a growth scan the following week (where I was one day off 28 weeks). Baby's HC was measuring in the 93rd centile and AC 91st but overall my measurements combined came out at just under the 90th centile so I wasn't referred for GD and no further action needed. Fluid around baby was also measuring normal.

However I've been reading things on here where people further along then me have had an AC in the 91st centile and have been warned about shoulder dystocia, had to be induced, c-section etc and it makes me wonder if something has been missed with my baby's measurements as I'm nearly 31 weeks now so I imagine AC would be bigger?

I also think there's a chance I could have GD as I've been suffering with recurrent thrush (though I also had this before I was pregnant) so could just be an unfortunate coincidence. No other symptoms and no family history.

I don't know whether to just continue in an ignorance is bliss manor as I haven't been told there's anything to worry about by anyone but my subconscious is telling me to push for a GTT and question the measurements?

I know these measurements/scans can also be highly inaccurate too.

I've been measuring on the 100th percentile. I've not been sent for any scans as she's following the line (already due for a c section though so maybe that's why)? I don't think the measurements are overly accurate though!

Hi OP. I had exactly the same worries at you when I was pregnant with DD. She was measuring 2 weeks ahead from an early stage and I was convinced she was going to be a big baby.
Pregnancy and labour were straight forward - DD was born vaginally and weighed a tiny 6lb 7oz. She's 2 now and just started wearing size 18-24 month clothes so still on the petite side size-wise.
I totally understand your worries though as I was in the same boat. I also had thrush in pregnancy (not very pleasant!)
I would try to relax - you've not been sent for any additional tests because there's not been any need to. I'm sure you've read a million and one stories on here and good old Dr Google (I know I did!) but everyone's story is different and thinking the worst at this time (especially as you're nearly 31 weeks pregnant) won't be doing you (or baby) any good.

Wishing you all the best in the rest of your pregnancy :)

My DD was similar, I did have GD.
She has totally healthy and weighed 8lb 3oz.
I had ELCS so can't comment.

You can request another glucose test if you want?

Hi there I am a midwife. I would hate to have your worried about your baby's size for the rest of your pregnancy. Go to your midwife ASAP and ask for glucose tolerance test. It will tell whether you have gestational diabetes or not. Also push to see a Dr. If you get brushed off by your community midwife then go to your maternity assessment unit. Tell them you are losing sleep over possibility of shoulder dystocia. You midwife will then have no choice but to get a Dr to talk to you. Centiles can go up and down in pregnancy, women can give birth birth to a large baby, growth scans are not always accurate. This much I know for sure. It's also my understanding that half of shoulders dystocias happen without any prior risk factors and most of them resolve with simple maneuvers. I have dealt with quite a few in my professional experience as a labour ward midwife. Never had a bad outcome (which is not to say they never happen). I think you would benefit with glucose tolerance test and a chat with a Dr. I would also stop Googling, in my experience it only lead to excessive anxiety. If you want to double check go for NHS sources. I hope it helps.

Request a GTT If it will put your mind at ease but I would take these measurements with a pinch of salt to be honest.

Both my babies were predicted 50th centile....first came out 25th and second came out 91st !

I had my big baby at home in the pool with no complications. Had they known about her size I would have been put on a pathway of intervention which would have been totally unnecessary. Likewise, Mumsnet is full of stories of women being told they were having huge babies and having interventions only to fund the baby was a perfectly average size.
