Midwife hasn't called me back all day, should I just go in?

This sounds so silly but I don’t know if it needs investigation or is normal. I’m 32 weeks pregnant and every time I eat baby gets hiccups. So 4-5 times a day. It’s been like this for a week or so and every so often there’s really intense movement and then not a lot. I googled and it says hiccups are normal, but I’m worried about the frequency. I wish a midwife could just tell me if it’s normal or not! Has anybody experienced this?

Personally I had similar and found it totally normal (my baby was totally healthy when born at full term) so I wouldn’t bother going in… but if you need reassurance do go in.

they always encourage you to check if worried

Hiccups are totally normal.

Wait for mw to call you back but I think it's very unlikely that you need to be seen.

Hi, that sounds pretty normal for some pregnancies. My DS seemed to very hiccups all the time, it can feel quite intense in later pregnancy. If you feel that your baby has reduced movements then you should go in to get checked but if it's just about frequency of hiccups then you don't need to worry.

Completely normal. I didn’t sleep through the last trimester due to DD1’s hiccoughing. The midwife hasn’t phoned you back as it’s a non issue

Thank you very much for the replies and reassurance! I’m sure they haven’t called back because it’s so low priority, but hard not to worry

I had it 10+ times a day in my last pregnancy. Was really worried about it. My midwife literally laughed in my face and said it was normal.

I was exactly the same with my second, it’s such a weird feeling! An old wives tale is that you’ll have a baby with lots of hair….very true in my case compared to my baldy first!

I am a midwife. It’s very normal

SnufflyBunny · 05/12/2023 18:17

Normal. My first had hiccups almost constantly from 30 weeks. She's a (relatively) healthy 15 year old now.

Mine had hiccups all the time before she was born and now at 3 weeks old gets them again after most feeds

3 of mine have been very hiccup-y! Especially when eating or drinking cold water, which always woke them up. All 3 had hiccups after every feed after birth too!

PickledScrump · 05/12/2023 20:10

Totally normal, all mine have done it a lot, my now 4 week old gets them after most feeds still.

I rang about baby’s hiccups a couple of weeks ago I’d never felt them before and then suddenly it was 4/5 times a day. I’d read that it can be a sign that they're compressing the cord so got myself a bit worried but the midwife said that it’s actually a good thing because they’re practising breathing and swallowing!
