I know that it does not bring on labour and is only supposed to help muscles contract once in labour!! and its alos good for afterwards and breastfeeding ...

Most people say that its safe to take from 32weeks but I am still hearing so much conflict that I just wanted to get it straight before I start popping the pills.

I took it only for last 2 1/2 weeks. pills not tea. and my midwife asked mid labour if i had been taking it...she says she can tell by the intensity and length of contractions. so it seemed to work in 2 1/2 weeks for me.
good luck

BigBadMouse · 13/03/2008 23:00

Is it really that good then? How does it help?

mamazee · 13/03/2008 23:03

Honestly ...no idea. i think it tones the uterus ??? my contractions were very short and powerful. the Tea doesn't work though...its too weak.

horseshoe · 13/03/2008 23:16

From the info I gathered it helps to tone the muscles of the uterus so that it contracts much more efficently throughout labour.

Apparantly the evidence is that it cuts down the length of the second phase of labour.

My mum took it for all three of us and she had 3 very quick second phases. I was just two quick pushes!!

I have had 2 DD's and never took it but might well do this time if I get out of needing CS

I'm gonna get tablets I think.

Does making them powerful mean it hurts more???

Took them with all of mine. All my births - including th first - were under 4 hours once they got going.

With the last one I only had one push as my body practically contracted him out in one!!

Of course it msy hve been the same if i hadnt of taken it but it definately didnt hurt to try it

mamazee · 13/03/2008 23:22

nope not for me. have only had one though but went without any pain relief at all i think it may even hurt less ??

UniversallyChallenged · 13/03/2008 23:23

horseshoe - it makes them stronger quicker. It apparantly doesnt bring on labour - that will happen when it happens!!- but it speeds things up once things kick off

horseshoe · 13/03/2008 23:32

I hope it works xxxcrossing fingersxxxx so is it Ok to take them from 32weeks?

Your experiences def suggests something works!

i wouldn't bother. start nearer the time.
good luck

I drank 2 cups a day from 34 wks and it definitely helped. Ds who was my first was born within 2 hrs and the pushing part was 10 mins.

UmmFulaan · 14/03/2008 08:51

where can you get it from?

UniversallyChallenged · 14/03/2008 09:58

not all health shops do it but some do - i rang those in my yellow pages but only one sold it. In tea Leaf form.

May be different now tho - this was 5 years ago

mamazee · 14/03/2008 10:05

i strongly the pills as 2 people i know took tea and we checked how much is in each bag and it was very little.
ggod luck

We've recently researched this on my antenatal thread, they are safe to be taken from 32weeks.
Many of us on there have been doing so and no-one has gone into labour because of it.
Tablets are apparently better and you can get them from holland and barratt.

weeonion · 14/03/2008 10:08

there have been a few threads on this of late. I drank gallons of the tea from about 36 weks. i cooled it and drank it instead of water. i made it into ice cubes to crunch on. i even mixed it with soda water for a change. only had 1 bubba but - after 2 days of early labour - the real stuff went very very quickly!! it caought us a bit unexpected - arrived at hospital with 7 mins to spare. this happened to a few other women from last yrs April antenatal thread - bubbas born in kitchens, nearly n car parks etc.

i dont know if it woudl have been any different without it but MW after the event ancedotally says RLT women are quicker once labour is established.

good luck

oh - i got mine from holland and barrett.

BigBadMouse · 14/03/2008 12:43

Ohhhh...might give it a miss then - I'm after something that speeds up the first bit - maybe having monsters that don't lie back to back might help

sweetkitty · 14/03/2008 12:56

Took it from 33 weeks with both., 6 capsules per day.

DD1 - 37+5 weeks, 4h 20m
DD2 - 41+5 weeks, 2h 30m

Both very intense labours, from first contraction there was no break in contractions, one ended another one started, very painful as well. DD2's labour was slowed down by my waters not going and her head being high, if my waters had went MW reckoned I would have been under an hour as I was 8cms when first examined 20 minutes after first contraction.

DD3 - I am hoping I will sneeze and she will fall out.
