Sertraline 3rd trimester risks

Hey guys,

I was prescribed Sertraline 50mg at around 12 weeks pregnant . I didn’t take them at the time as I was afraid of side effects etc. I am now just 28 weeks pregnant and really struggling and have gotten to a point where I feel that I may have to just take them (very afraid of Post natal depression and think I will be at huge risk of this if I don’t get it under control now) . Anyone aware of risks at this stage? I’ve tried to do research but not seeing a huge amount of info specifically for later pregnancy,, I have asked my midwife and GP and they aren’t dismissive as such but are making me aware that I need them and that is the main priority. Have also just seen an article stating that SSRIS can increase autism? But then other articles contradict this . Any information would be great

You can look on the BUMPS website (Best Use of Medicines in Pregnancy) which will have accurate and up to date info. Many women take Sertraline safely in pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

I took Sertraline right through 2 pregnancies (it was prescribed just after dc1).

Was a huge help through my depression after those dc were born. I took it for 17 years after dc2 was born and I'm now on a different ad but it's been great for me and my family xx

Sertraline is safe to take in pregnancy. I stopped taking during pregnancy because I was paranoid and it ended up with me having severe prenatal anxiety followed by postnatal depression. Definitely worth taking the meds to avoid that kind of situation!
