10 weeks letter for repeat blood test

I had my booking appointment a few weeks ago and had my bloods taken. I received a letter today to say I need to go to the hospital at my earliest convenience to repeat the blood test. Has anyone had this before or know why this might be?

I've emailed my midwife to see if she knows but doubt I'll hear back any time soon.

First trimester is so anxiety inducing! And I've been feeling to anxious and emotional this weekend. I didn't have anything like this with my son so am worrying about why i need to have the bloods repeated

I had this and it was because a form hadn’t been sent with the sample.
I just had the test repeated when I was in for my 20 week scan and everything was fine.

It just worries me because they've basically asked me to go in as soon as possible

Is there a number to call to ask what it is about?
My letter said asap, but when I called they said it wasn’t urgent.
Fingers crossed it’s just something routine.

just go and get it done sometime this week. It'll be because a sample was missing or something

I had this and it was because my sample wasn’t sent to the lab on time. The midwife said the iron level test in particular has to be tested within so many hours after it’s been taken and it missed the window so had to be repeated.

I went and had it redone this morning. They said it was the HIV one that needed redoing and now my mind is in panic mode. Of all the ones they would need to retest it would be this one that would cause me to stress about the most. Said I'd get the results in a few days.

Have you been exposed to HIV that you know of, OP? If you're in London it's now opt-out for HIV testing on all blood tests, so it may be that they hadn't done it and need to for their numbers. And even if- worst case scenario- you had HIV (which is vanishingly unlikely if you've lived the life of the average female in the UK) it's very treatable now and people live alongside the disease to an average life span. It's not the death sentence it was when we were growing up. I hope that everything goes okay.

No not that I know of! I've been with DH over 10 years and we have a toddler. All was fine with my blood results in my last pregnancy 2 years ago.

I didn't opt out of any testing I said I was happy to have all tests done. The nurse today said it could be they may not have had enough in the sample to test for the HIV, syphyllis hep B etc but my mind is just in panic mode because they manage to test the other ones just not HIV

The tests for HIV are very sensitive and can sometimes show a reactive result that is a false positive. When retested other tests can also be done on the sample to confirm. It must be worrying for you and hope you get the result back soon.

False positive results on HIV tests

Tests always produce a small number of false positive results. To ensure accurate diagnosis, a sequence of confirmatory tests is used to verify all reactive results.

Thank you for your reply. I'm also now panicking as I'm still breast feeding my toddler!

Test results can come back very quickly nowadays. It might not be that it was a reactive test, rather a spoilt sample or other reason when testing for different things as mentioned in the article which can happen in a lab.
