Ate mould ripened goat's cheese...

Had dinner at a friend's house the other evening and she served a (cold) sauce made out of goat's cheese. She was so pleased that she'd found a pasteurised cheese that I felt I had to eat it, hoped it was ok. But now I've read that it doesn't matter if it's pasteurised, if it's mould ripened it's a big no-no. Goat even more than cow.

I haven't felt ill since but I read that you don't always feel symptoms of listeria unlike salmonella but can affect the baby anyway.

I will never eat it again but can anyone offer me some words of comfort, am getting so nervous that it will have affected the baby (26 weeks).

Thank you!

tbh - I ate soft cheese, cured meats, pate and seafood throughout both of my pregnancies.

I use my sense of smell more but I have had two very healthy babies who have only had a handful of minor illnesses between them.

Yup, I ate everything through both pregnancies. Dctors advise against IN CASE you catch something, and THEREBY also risking the baby's health....

As Mrspnut says, just use your sense of smell. I'd say that goes for everything- a best before date, for example, is just a legal thing to cover the supermarket's arse. Doesn't mean the food turns magically poisonous after the stroke of midnight

Don't worry about it. Just be as sensible as you normally would be about dodgy food. It's just a case of 'If I'm going down, then I'm taking you down with me'
Not to sound too blase about the health of an unborn child, but I have two very healthy boys, and had no issues through either pregnancy.

Thanks so much both of you. Have been being so careful with everything I eat (exhausted) and so was just pissed off with myself for 'slipping up' with the goat's cheese.
