Tilted uterus and natural birth

So I'm very early into my pregnancy ( almost 8 weeks) but I have to refer to the hospital as haven't yet done so.
I'm torn which hospital to go to.
My local hospital is quite understaffed and I'm wondering if I should travel to another hospital. The reason being.. I had always planned on a natural birth however my partners ex SIL was advised to have a c section due to tilted uterus. I also have a very tilted uterus. So much so that even the transvaginal ultrasound was extremely difficult. Does anybody else here have one? Have you been advised if you can proceed with a natural birth or would this complicate things? My nearest hospital isn't performing any unplanned surgery so I'm worried should I run into complications during labour (fingers crossed my pregnancy progresses that far) so I want to pre plan things in advance they said hospital i register with cant be changed

By the time you are about 16 weeks, your uterus is out of the pelvis and no longer tilted. A tilted uterus is a variant of normal and it won't impact on your birth. Your SIL received some very sketchy advice. Im a midwife.

This, I came on to say the same as I also have a very tilted uterus. At no point was it suggested that it would cause an issue except for early scans.

Yes another very tilted uterus person here. Gave birth three times, no issues.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 01/12/2023 15:43

Another tilted uterus person here, and I had two normal problem-free deliveries.

gotomomo · 01/12/2023 15:47

Tilted uterus here, gave birth twice naturally without pain relief with no complications and hardly any pain!

Musicalmistress · 01/12/2023 15:48

And another tilted uterus owner here - 3 vaginal births & no one ever suggested otherwise.

Thanks very much for your replies

All fine, mine was tilted, I had difficulty with scans but not sure if it was related but the pregnancy felt like it was all in my back and I never measured more than 32 weeks, my DC weren't enormous but normal sized

Twiglets1 · 01/12/2023 16:27

That's odd.

I have a tilted uterus and gave birth naturally twice, it was never raised as an issue.

WhyMeWhyNowWhyNot · 01/12/2023 16:29

Either your MW gave odd advice or your SIL misunderstood the advice given 🤷‍♀️

Another with a tilted uterus and no issues.

wlv12 · 01/12/2023 16:30

Another midwife here thinking your sister in law had some sketchy advice!

I see lots of ladies with tilted uterus, tilted uterus myself and 2 normal deliveries. It’s a variation of normal.

Your local hospital not doing any unplanned surgery shouldn’t affect maternity and your labour/any need for emergency c-section.

Congratulations and all the best for the coming months ☺️

Gloschick · 01/12/2023 16:32

Can I just say that all uteruses tilt either forwards (anteverted, more common) or backwards (retroverted, less common)!

Stop it, I thought I was special.

A fellow tilted uterus owner. One vaginal delivery and one C-section, that had zilch to do with my uterus. Everything to do with baby's position though.

HamHand · 01/12/2023 16:38

I have a tilted uterus and have had 4 natural deliveries. All of my babies were back to back through which I assume is somehow connected. My first didn’t turn in labour, I had an epidural and was stuck on the bed, she came out looking at the ceiling. No one had realised her position, if they had I’d have likely been told to keep active. All my others turned in labour and came out the right way round, I didn’t need epidurals with them, was active and upright, 2 of them water births which I really recommend if you can. It’s far too early to worry about this x

onestepfromgrace · 01/12/2023 16:41

Mines tilted which can mean a bit of shuffling about for smear tests but no problem with giving birth.

I wonder if your SIL wanted a C section and felt that she needed a reason?

Nursemumma92 · 01/12/2023 16:46

Mine is tilted and early scans and smears are difficult. It will move as your pregnancy progresses, i had 2 straightforward vaginal deliveries.
