Fetus weight drop from 70th to 25th percentile - what to do?

Hi everyone,

Just had a scan and got told that the weight of the fetus has dropped from 70th percentile in the last scan at 20 weeks to now 25th in the 36 weeks scan. That's a huge drop.

We had a baby before 3 years ago and she was heavier than normal and the pregnancy was smooth.

So we're worried that this new time round the baby is not growing very well and that's a sign that something's wrong.

What were your experiences? How worried should one be?

What can we do to find out more? I've been reading about some tests out there.

What should we do with the delivery? Is it better to have the baby sooner?

Thanks in advance!

Have they offered you extra growth scans? It is very easy for them to get the measurements wrong. I am having growth scans every
Two weeks xx

They have offered another scan in 2 weeks' time. Fingers crossed that it's a measurement problem...!

Also starting to reflect whether it's related to anything I've done in my pregnancy... :(

@pizzanoodle don't do this to yourself please xx

I went for the gestational diabetes test this morning as they are worried the babies tummy is larger than it should be.

They told me this is NOTHING TO DO WITH ME as I am healthy and could easily be an mis measure on their part but want to rule things out.

Take the scan they offer.

My sister was told her babies were massive and both were under 7lbs x

Don't dwell on "what did I do...?" The answer is most likely nothing. I'd focus on what you can effect.

Did they check the blood flow to the foetus during your scan?

Personally...
I would want another scan a lot soon (weekly) and i'd be asking for an appointment with a consultant to get approved for ELCS and be looking to book a c section at 39 weeks (potentially earlier at 38 weeks)

if they mess about with booked delivery dates ( I was supposed to be booked in Mon at 39+3 and they booked me on Thursday 39+6!!!) phone every day to see if you can move it earlier via cancellations.

How do they check the blood flow to the fetus?

I'm booked in for a c-section for 40 weeks + 2 days because of my first delivery where I had a post partum haemorrhage.

When I was deciding on dates the doctor was advising that it's better for the baby to be full term.

But that was all before this scan that they just did.

Is that c section date too late?

They also said that the most frequently they do scans is every two weeks so they can't do weekly :/

I was scanned twice a week from 28 weeks so it has been possible previously to be scanned more often. They also did twice a day fetal monitoring. That was for IUGR and having a very low amount of amniotic fluid. The monitoring was to ensure they were ready to act if we reached the better out than in stage. I’d ask to speak to the consultant in more detail now you’ve had the chance to process the information.
