Bit of a weird one. My levels were all over the place and my fasting bloods were always too high along with most other readings. I was given metformin but never got round to taking it yet as I managed to diet control. The nurse said just keep them and if I have more than 2 high fasting levels I should begin taking them and call them to let them know.

Anyway, I’ve been eating a good GD diet and my readings have consistently been within range. I have started eating things that are not GD friendly to see how I tolerate them and my bloods always seem fine. This is after a chippy, a Chinese, chocolate, ice cream (not all at once 😂) and I’m not usually pairing them.

I’m just confused as to why my levels aren’t going high after this sort of food? Today my pre dinner bloods were 5.0, I had gammon steak, an egg, pineapple ring, broccoli, corn on the cob, hash browns and then I had a ripple chocolate bar then some ice cream with a flake. 2 hours after my levels were 5.4

What is going on?? Is this normal?

Have you tried measuring after 1 hour instead of 2? You might have missed the spike? When I had GD I was told to measure one hour after eating.

@Lovingangelsinstead No I've never tested 1 hour after. I was told to just do it 2 hours after dinner

Test at 1 hour as well, my spikes drop really quickly but can be quite impressive

@Sorrento79 I'll try testing 1 hour after and see what my readings are then. My fasting readings have also dropped and are within range even if I eat sugar the night before. It's just weird

I had GD and was told to test after 1 hour too.

Nurses don't advocate for spike testing as it uses too many strips but I'd seriously look at testing at 15 min intervals post a meal like that. You might be surprised at how much you're spiking and crashing.

How are things going for you? What week are you at? Did you eventually test at the 1-hour mark too? But I would say that if your fasting numbers have been in range (although they used to be high), then your diet seems to be working and you've probably managed to find a good bedtime snack combo that actually works for your body. Fasting is usually the most complicated one to manage.
