Hello you lovely lot.

I am sat at my desk, currently feeling alone and in a very confused state, so I thought I would reach out to seek advice.

I came off the pill after 15 years 20/09/23 as we wanted to try for a baby. 20/10/23 I got my first period since coming off the pill. I thought brilliant, straight back to a 28 day cycle.

14/11/23 Someone at work said I looked different, so I done a HCG hospital grade pregnancy test (given to me) and it came up with a strong positive line. I then went onto to 3 x clearblue digitals and a normal clearbue that week, all positive and digital reading 1-2 weeks. Ive had sore breasts and felt a little off on a morning.

Skip to 21/11 I start with light spotting, which over the evening has turned to bright red blood with cramps, I would say this is like the same amount as a period. I did another clear blue last night and now it states 'not pregnant'.

I am lost, feel stupid and guilty, all at the same time. Any advice?

PS - I have a private scan booked 09/12, guessing I should cancel this...

Thank you for reading, really not sure where to go or who to speak to from here.

Sounds like a chemical pregnancy or very early miscarriage. They are very common. You have nothing to feel stupid or guilty about and I’m so sorry for your loss.

go home and cry if you need to and I hope you get a successful pregnancy soon.

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 22/11/2023 11:52

I am so sorry you are going through this. The only good takeaway is at least you have had a sign. I’ve had multiple missed miscarriages and only found out at scans.
Keep an eye on your bleeding. It should hopefully at this stage be not much more than a normal period. If it continues then a scan makes sense. Though you should be able to get an NHS one really.
You’ve done nothing wrong and it’s important to remember that at least 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, moreso in first pregnancies.
Take care of you

You have had a chemical pregnancy which is a very early miscarriage.

this does not mean anything is wrong with you. Lots of pregnancies don’t implant and progress properly, lots. Unfortunately early, sensitive tests mean that people find out they were pregnant when they wouldn’t have known before, which is unnecessarily traumatic.

if you are 4 weeks, then this is your period. You were pregnant, it just didn’t implant and progress.

I would not go through the trauma of a scan. If you had a viable pregnancy, upon missed period, it would be detected.

I am sorry. There is no need to feel stupid.

I'm so sorry. I agree with the suggestion of going home if you can

Please take care of yourself Flowers

Hey OP, that is difficult I’m sorry. What is there to feel guilty and stupid about? Maybe get some cheapies so you can see if the line is getting fainter over time if it’s still there on any test. Sorry this is happening. Wait for a few days to see what the tests are doing before cancelling your appointment. Keep tracking your cycles and fingers crossed you get pregnant again soon if this sadly is a chemical/early miscarriage.

4 weeks 4 days*

then you would most definitely have a positive test if you were still pregnant. the chemical pregnancy has made your period late.

i have been there and it is gutting but very very common now pregnancies can be picked up so early. About half of all pregnancies won’t implant properly.

Ttc is so nerve wracking but it is best to wait until your period has missed to test to save heartbreak. X

Hoping4amiracle · 22/11/2023 12:37

So sorry OP, I’ve been there many times unfortunately and whilst I know it’s not much consolation now, it doesn’t mean you will have a chemical pregnancy next time.

Take care of yourself xx

Chemical pregnancy/very early miscarriage - I was unlucky enough to have 4 in a row, then was successful on my 5th attempt.
My Doctor referred to it as a "late period" due to being so early on.
It's very common - Altho that doesn't make it any less emotionally painful I know.
I hope you're ok, and keep on trying, you will get there.

KVM88 · 22/11/2023 13:33

Thank you for you're support and lovely messages! Guess the fun part is trying and will try to smile :)

Unfortunately sounds like a chemical pregnancy, very common, and nothing to feel any shame or guilt over. Vast majority caused by chromosome issues with foetus. It's positive you became pregnant so quickly though.
