Light bleeding

I’m under a month pregnant, and just gone to the loo and found light pink blood. I have very mild period like pain (which has been on and off for two weeks but much milder the last couple days). However my lower left back feels like it’s going to give out (back in the summer I had problems in that area,
same sort of pain and needed treatment, which sorted it out but now feels like it’s back. Not sure if this is related).

I only found out I was pregnant Saturday.

I’ll phone the doctors in the morning, but can anyone give any advice.

I’m sorry you’re going through this.

I had really bad period like cramps with both my pregnancies, I was certain I was going to start AF. I also had bad lower back pain.

Light bleeding could be implantation bleeding, spotting or even an irritated cervix. Have you had sex recently?

Contact your gp/ local Epu and let them know what’s happening, however, sadly they might not do much unless you’re in a lot of pain or start heavily bleeding. They may ask you to wait it out until you hit around the 6 week mark so they can scan you.

The period pain is very normal at this point in pregnancy and to be honest throughout, I think it’s a symptom that causes loads of worry and isn’t talked about enough! I also had some spotting this early on which was just implantation. Unfortunately I think all you can do is wait and see how it progresses, it may stop or it may get heavier and turn into a period. I’m not sure if the gp would do anything at this stage but worth a call if it puts your mind at rest.

Haven’t had sex recently (been too tired). Sorry I’m so new to this, what does AF mean?

Would implantation bleeds happen around 3-4 weeks? On Sunday my clearblue test said I was 1-2 weeks pregnant.

AF is Aunt Flo which is slang for period. I had implantation spotting up to 6 weeks, on and off.

Ok that puts my mind at ease a bit. I’ll call the GP in the morning still, just for peace of mind. I guess all I can do is wait.

I’ve never had a period start like this before, but then, I’ve never been pregnant before. I’m so new to this all and felt so excited after the journey I’ve been through with my tokophobia that I’ve felt like I was making progress all round.

I’m trying not to worry, but unfortunately that’s my middle name 🥺

I’ve had spotting around the 6-7 week mark with both my pregnancies and even then when I spoke to the EPU they suggested it could be due to implantation. They’ve never been concerned and both times said only to worry if it turns into heavy bleeding or becomes very painful. As a pp said though, mild cramping in definitely normal in early pregnancy.

Duckling89 · 21/11/2023 21:22

I’m over 20 weeks now and still get period cramping sometimes, in the first trimester I had all sorts of aches and weird pains down there including cramping and an achy feeling in my cervix. It’s just everything stretching and moving around for baby.

I’ve woken up in the night to find I’m now passing blood and have period pain. I’ve phoned NHS 111.

I’m really scared.

I’m so sorry OP, I hope everything is ok for you 🤞

@FooFightingGal do you want to tell us what are you scared of?
Hopefully you've managed to put in a pad and get some sleep. You can take Paracetamol if needed.

Scared of miscarriage.

I got up to pee on the night and was bleeding, I phoned 111 and they called a couple hours later and sent me off to hospital. A&E thought either Ectopic or miscarriage. My hormone levels are below 9. So it doesn’t look good.

Got to go for another blood test Friday to see what’s happening but it looks like I was pregnant for a “second”.

I’m trying to be positive but looks like we’ll be back at square one.

I know it's hard but in these early weeks there is very little certainty - what will be what will be.
Fingers crossed for a gealthy oregnancy but if it is a miscarriage you will be OK. You will cry, you will rage, you will grieve, but you will get out the other side.

FooFightingGal · 23/11/2023 16:39

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like my pregnancy will progress. I went to A&E early Tuesday morning as the bleeding progressed.

They believe I was actually 6 weeks pregnant. Their urine tests showed I wasn’t pregnant but my bloods showed my hCG levels were below 9. The Early Pregnancy Unit nurse said it should have been in the thousands.

I’m due to go back to the unit tomorrow for a follow up blood test to see what those levels are and whether I’m still pregnant. But I am bleeding like a normal period, so it’s highly unlikely.

We’re devastated. I’m trying to hold onto the positives. I’m 40 tomorrow, and I was pregnant, even if for a short time. At least I know I can get pregnant, as it was something I was worried about being older and never having tried before. I’m now just petrified that this will keep happening BECAUSE I’m older.

I’m so sorry. Make sure you take time to look after yourselves and grieve in whatever way you need to. I know it’s easier said than done but try not to dwell on whether this may happen again - you don’t need the added stress. Plenty of women aged 40 and older have healthy pregnancies. Good luck with everything 💐
