Hi all!

I'm just looking for a bit of advice.

I just, a couple hours ago, found out I'm pregnant! Very scared (severe tokophobia sufferer) but very excited and happy with the news so far.

I have sent a email to register myself through the NHS, but I have a question.

For the last 2 weeks I've had like a little niggling pain in my lower abdomen, kind of like period pain but not. It's like an internal scratching pain (kind of like when you have a smear) in my uterus. It moves about, so yesterday was on the left side and today is on the right. It's not a big pain, it's very mild but just there most of the time. Also I noticed yesterday I had to undo my jean button because that was aggravating it and causing it to be noticeable.

I just wanted to check if this is normal as my doctors isn't open until Monday. I want to make sure buba is healthy and I don't want to do anything to cause issue.

I'm sorry if this seems like a super stupid thing to ask, just I'm nervous and want to do everything right.

Sounds normal to me. You can get bloating early in pregnancy, loop a hair band through the buttonhole and over the button to give yourself a little more room.

FooFightingGal · 18/11/2023 14:00

That's a genius idea! I've always carried a little extra weight. And was thinking about getting new jeans anyway, but will definitely remember this! Thanks!

Sounds normal, but also possibly worth getting urine checked at GPs for a UTI. Common in pregnancy and I had similar discomfort when I had one.

FloofCloud · 18/11/2023 14:41

So are you around 4 weeks?
Your uterus stretches and your ligaments also move and cause some stabbing pain (prepare for the ones that go straight up you!)
The blastocyst grows and rumbles down and settles in the uterus and burrows into the wall. All this causes some feelings, as does the growth of more blood vessels and changes in hormones affecting your body in various ways.
Essentially try not to worry and enjoy your pregnancy - congratulations!

... forgot to add, speak to the midwife or GP about Counselling re tokophobia

Watto1 · 18/11/2023 14:44

It’s probably things stretching in there. You’ll have plenty more strange sensations in the months to come - it’s a very odd time! Congratulations!

FooFightingGal · 18/11/2023 17:16

I'm not sure how far along I am...I think about 2-3 weeks, going to take a digital clearblue that tells you tonight to check. Line was super faint. I've already received help with tokophobia, but will probably need more.

Hi, I'm 8 weeks and 3 days today and the feeling you described above I had very early one, I was aware from 4 weeks that I was pregnant as it was an IVF cycle and I have had 2 scans in that time to know everything is fine. I had this sensation between 4-7 weeks aswell as some really strong cramping/stretching feeling and joint ache. My GP advised it's all normal...not sure if I've just gotten used to it or it's eased off a bit now as last week or so hadn't been so bad.

WhatsThePurposeOfLife · 18/11/2023 19:14

You count your weeks from your last period not from when you conceived.

FooFightingGal · 18/11/2023 20:39

I read online you count from when your next period was due?? But thats difficult as mine were irregular.

No, it's from the start of you last period, so should be a date you know. You can have your dates adjusted down the line when you have a scan though, probably more likely to need to adjust if you have an irregular cycle.

Just flagging the digi ones need to be done with FMU otherwise you might not get an accurate reading.

What does that mean? Sorry I'm very new to this.

You count from the first day of your last actual period.

With regular cycles, you ovulate at “2 weeks” (even though it’s impossible to actually be pregnant then). And most women are about “4 weeks” pregnant when their next period is due and they find out they are pregnant.

If you’ve been testing regularly I would assume you are about 4 weeks now - I.e. when you got a positive test.

When you have your 12 week scan they will do measurements and will be able estimate your due date even if you’re not completely sure about dates, so don’t worry about that.

To answer your actual question, bloating, stretching pains, a bit of discomfort is very normal. I had loads with my first pregnancy. Not so much with my second but I guess everything had already stretched once.

Also I used to get really sharp shooting pains if I stood up quickly, coughed, twisted. That’s normal too, so don’t worry.

Ah lovely, thank you. I know the first day of my last period was the 14th October, so through clear blues calculator I'm due mid July. So your comment about being 4 weeks pregnant would be pretty much accurate, thank you. I think it would mean I'm 5 weeks, counting on the calendar.

Yes those sharp shooting pains when you cough or sneeze are stopping me in my tracks when they happen! I honestly had no idea about these early pains!

The only thing I'm concerned about taking the clear blue digital test is. I have maybe slept a hour over night...and I've been up and down to pee like a yoyo (also felt very nauseated when I woke up but I have a habit of manifesting symptoms). So should I even bother taking the test or hope I have a better nights sleep tonight and take it tomorrow morning??

Just to confuse things further the clear blue digital tests give you “weeks since conception” rather than “weeks pregnant”.

So it will say 1-2 or 2-3 weeks (even if you are actually 4 or 5 weeks pregnant).

Yes, I just took it and it says 1-2 weeks, so know that can’t be right 🤣 don’t really see the point of those tests in that case!

Shroedy · 19/11/2023 13:10

It is right, it's just telling you weeks since conception and not weeks pregnant.

FooFightingGal · 19/11/2023 18:18

This so isn’t my area of expertise…clearly 😂 Thanks all, really appreciate the help.

OP posts:
Shroedy · 20/11/2023 09:52

You'll be an expert soon enough 😉 just add two weeks and it's how many weeks pregnant you are. So 1-2 weeks since conception on a clear blue would be 3-4 weeks pregnant.
