What are the risks of taking nurofen in the last 3 months of pregnancy?

I am feeling really really ill today - shivering, dizzy, achy etc etc. I can only find nurofen in the house - but the packet says that it shouldn't be taken in the last 3 months of pregnancy. Does anyone know why?

I feel so ropey that I feel too wobbly to go to the shops for paracetamol atm.

i would not take it if it says not to.

its terrible when you feel like shit and you cant take anything to help you feel better

try your hardest to go out and get some paraceamol and lie up with a blanket and relax.

NHS direct says that you can only take it under the care of a MW or GP and only in the first 30 weeks of pregnancy here. Does say why, but I wouldn't risk it.
Sorry you feel so ropey, by the way.

i wouldn't touch nurofen. paracetamol is safe and hot lemon with honey help too...but if you feel too rough to go to the shop..Loads of water and anything citrusy will help.

i really feel for you, i had a bad cold a few weeks ago and couldn't face a lemon after 4 days, but it did the trick.
good luck.

This is from an NHS site: here

"There is concern with the use of ibuprofen in the third trimester. The greatest concern is for premature closure of the ductus arteriosus (a vessel in the fetal heart), which can lead to high blood pressure in the fetal lungs (pulmonary hypertension). The use of ibuprofen later in pregnancy may inhibit labor or cause reduced amount of amniotic fluid (oligohydramnios). Therefore, it is recommended that women use ibuprofen only under a health care provider?s supervision during the third trimester."

Sorry you're not feeling well, but I would stick with the Calpol - hope that makes you feel better soon
