Daft question. Worried about overheating during pregnancy and miscarriage risk

Sorry if this sounds daft.
I'm 5+3 days pregnant.
Last night I nodded off on a hot water bottle on my lower back. I didn't even realise it was there as I got lost in the moment enjoying the heat . I did have a cover but it was still quite hot. It was on my back for about 10 mins when I woke up. Then I fell asleep again and forgot to change out of my clothes. I was wearing my wooly jumper, socks and all so my body temp was warm and I slept underneath my 15tog Teddy borg duvet. I was extremely hot when I woke up. A bit clammy with moisture.
I'm now freaked out as I know heat stress can cause a miscarriage. Would this be enough to overheat my body ? I am paranoid because I used a hot tub last time I was pregnant not knowing I was 4 weeks and suffered a miscarriage which I was told may have been due to that.

No, you’ll be fine. Your body will have been working to regulate itself.

Whataretheodds · 17/11/2023 11:38

The truth is that at your very early gestation there are all sorts of things that could happen, and if you were to miscarry it would be nigh on impossible to know why.

By far the most likely outcome is that all will be fine. I wouldn't suggest repeating it as an experiment but most likely it will not be an issue.

Sorry to hear about your previous miscarriage. Who told you the hot tub was likely to have caused it?

Crzy · 17/11/2023 11:39

Not to say it never happens as I don’t know enough about it to say 110% but it is very very unlikely to cause anything, and anecdotally having been pregnant through the 40 degree heatwaves and regularly taking hotter showers than I realistically should after being reassured by my midwife the main risk of overheating is blood pressure change making you feel faint, hence why we’re told to avoid hot showers, saunas etc and am now nearly due and little one is completely fine. It’s so hard being pregnant after losses especially when you think you could’ve caused it without knowing but it’s very unlikely, sadly the worry doesn’t get any better the further along you are until they’re in your arms then they change to new worries!

Huge congrats @Hazeydaisy!

Interesting thread - I've also been recently wondering about hot water bottles, as we use them all the time to save on heating. So are they an absolute no when TTC/pregnant? It also crossed my mind that presumably men using them around a 'specific area' kills sperm right? Given all they say about cycling, hot baths, tight boxers etc.

(Yes I'm sure I could look this up on google but I find real people's answers and experiences more interesting/helpful 😊)

@blgld apparently its something to do with your core temperature being raised too much. I've no idea how hot my core was but I know I was on the verge of sweating

The bubbles in the hot tub could presumably cause contractions too, a.long with the heat.

I went through an IVF clinic for my treatment and struggled with shoulder pain, they told me to take paracetamol rather than a hot water bottle, they were very anti them on the trunk area. I did place it on for the odd 10mins but once it had cooled after a few hours and with the cover on. You can't change what happened with it but maybe going forward just make sure you move it, don't mean that to sound rude but weeks of worrying about it won't help.
So early on everyone is likely to do something they shouldn't be it eat cured meat/soft cheese/glass of wine before they realise or a hot water bottle.

Also most people's body temp rises during pregnancy, I fall asleep in PJs and 2 thin duvets and wake up boiled half way through the night ha

I use a hot water bottle most night for my feet and did through the transfer to keep my uterus warm
