Does anyone have any experience of this? Any advice?

Also, did breastfeeding effect any pregnancy symptoms?

Thank you in advance!!! X x

I breastfed throughout pregnancy.

My middle was 2 when I fell pregnant so she was old enough to not need the milk.

From memory. My milk stopped at around 16 weeks. She would tell me it was all gone!..
She continued to dry nurse though and was thrilled when the baby was born and the milk came back in!
I tandem fed for a month and then as my middle turned 3, she stopped on her birthday!

No effect to pregnancy or symptoms etc.

But dry nursing from 16 weeks was uncomfortable and I just went in to grin and bare it mode. It didn't make me more tired really. It just got harder as my belly got bigger!

I actually got more sleep as my 2 year old stopped waking up to feed in the night as my milk had gone!

I think by reading and researching, your milk does dry up and toddler with either wean or dry nurse.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Aw thank you! I have had 3 pregnancies before this one and I have always had sickness and nausea from literally 4 weeks but only have headaches, aching muscles and sore nipples this time (sorry TMI lol) but they are also things I have experienced breastfeeding so who knows 🤷‍♀️ hoping this isn't a bad sign, it just is. Dry nursing sounds brutal! My babe is only 11 months so I really don't know how he would cope if I get there in a couple months 😫😭

I got pregnant just after my first turned one.
I fed her throughout my pregnancy, my supply didn't dry up at all and it had no effect on my Pg symptoms - although I remember throwing up (morning sickness) after feeding her once overnight.
My daughter stopped feeding about 6 weeks before my son was born. She was 20 months by then and husband put her to bed for a week and that was that - although I thought I might have to tandem feed them for a while.
Congratulations!
My two are incredibly close and it's great to for them to have a play buddy so close in age.

I breastfed thru pregnancy and tandem nursed for about 18 months. Just worked for me / us. Took it one day at a time. Had some aversion to the toddler feeding once baby born. Amazing how the body can manage both. I found LLL older baby breastfeeding group near me at the time was very helpful.

Congratulations!

I was breastfeeding my two year old when I got pregnant. Continued to breastfeed my toddler throughout my pregnancy and the baby is now 2 months old.

No issues with milk supply, symptoms etc although your nipples will be more sensitive. Also unless you want to tandem feed I'd wean before baby arrives.

I'm still feeding both and it's exhausting so hope to wean soon as he doesn't need it anymore x

As your little one is so little you might want to think about storing milk in 20/30ml containers so if it does try up for a few weeks, you have a back up. At some point in the second trimester most mums find it decreases significantly but then comes back as colostrum very early...so dry nursing can be short. With one of mine it was only five weeks. In that time I used to dip my nipples in expressed milk, let infant suckle briefly then say milk sleeping and offer it in a cup.

La Leche League have some good info on tandem feeding which I'm doing still now.

Ive a 16 month age gap, so was BF my 7/8 month old when I became pregnant. I managed to feed for a few more months (till my dd was 11 months, and I was in early 2nd trimester) but found it was suddenly v painful and I was aware my milk supply had dropped. For me. I didn’t have the will/wish to continue as (the changes) seemed to be causing us both more frustration, than closeness, but I was sad to stop (Practicalities also factored as I had returned to work, so it likely wasn’t just bump that changed BF).

I do think I’m hindsight BF eased pregnancy symptoms…I typically get HG in pregnancies and it was by far my pregnancy with the least sickness (5+ times a day instead of 35+). I put it down to other factors at the time!!

I breastfed my son till I was 4 months pregnant. Then milk dried up.. I'm now 36 weeks pregnant

Welcome2thecircus · 16/11/2023 09:40

Forgot to say, I have oversupply (with all three kids) so that might be why I didn't have any issues with milk drying up. Also my tandem feeder was almost 3 😂Freezing is a great idea just as a safety net x

Yep still got it

Thanks everyone. So interesting to read about. Hoping this is a sticky baby so I can experience this myself. Although now more worried that I never seem to be able to pump much and my DS will NEVER take any liquid including milk from any cup or bottle 😫
