Stressed about high hcg levels and what this can mean

I just got my hcg levels back from the gp. They are 453.
I haven't received any further information about what this can mean other than reception telling me this result is high. I should just be 5 weeks no more.
We had ivf and my transfer was on 29th October with a 5 day transfer.
I'm almost 38.
From googling this is seems to suggest high hcg can mean multiples or that the baby could have down syndrome. Now I'm feeling rather stressed out as I'm not getting any clarity from the actual gp regarding my levels.
Anyone any thoughts?
This is my first pregnancy and I've no idea what's normal and not. I can't seem to find the correct information online and just seem to be relying on reception staff

What’s the measurement? Ml etc.

MoonIightDreamer · 15/11/2023 16:15

@DottyMacaroon I have absolutely no idea. That's the number they told me and haven't went into any more details. I'm feeling a complete lack of support from my surgery.
They were supposed to test my progesterone aswell due to previous miscarriage but didn't even bother to test that either

How many days past transfer was the blood taken?

DragonFly98 · 15/11/2023 16:21

That's not high at all was it an IVF clinic that told you that?

MoonIightDreamer · 15/11/2023 16:27

@DragonFly98 no it was gp surgery

at 5 weeks your HCG should be between 217 - 8,245 mIU/mL so you're actually nearer the lower end of normal

MoonIightDreamer · 15/11/2023 16:28

@soscarlet 15 days past a 5day transfer

That doesn’t sound high to me but I’m no expert.

Pollywoddles · 15/11/2023 16:31

That’s not high, mine was over 900 at 17 dpo with one pregnancy and over 1100 at 18 dpo with another. Yours is over 400 at 20 dpo so I think you can stop worrying about it being high.

Edited to add that mine wasn’t considered high either! And that levels don’t matter so much other than that they are doubling every 48 hours

MoonIightDreamer · 15/11/2023 16:34

Thanks guys, that's reassuring. I'm not sure why my surgery have told me this number was "very high "

Was it a medical professional who told you this? Specifically a medical professional who specialises in pregnancy?

SarahShorty · 15/11/2023 16:38

It's likely because it's a GP surgery. Unless they have a background in ob/gyn type stuff, they're not going to be able to elaborate much.

@soscarlet 15 days past a 5day transfer

I wouldn’t be worried about that at all! Daft GP receptionist.

BertieBotts · 15/11/2023 17:28

453 is a perfectly normal and very good reading.

Perhaps they meant high enough not to be a concern?

BertieBotts · 15/11/2023 17:29

ie, high enough to indicate a positive result :)

Congratulations BTW!

Cdoc · 15/11/2023 17:39

Mine was 24,000 at 5+5 (later pushed forward 5 days). Perfectly healthy single baby :)

Congrats Op on your pregnancy!
