Fundal height and being tall

Hi everyone

I have a growth scan later because at my 26 week appointment (where I was actually 26+6, so nearly 27 weeks) I was measuring 29cm.

I'm not sure how to feel really as in reality its only 2cm over, which I've read can be normal? I am a bit concerned about GD as I have been eating a lot of chocolate etc but I also wondered how likely it is that our baby could just be long? I am 5ft9 and DH is 6ft1. At our scans DH always though baby looked 'long' which I dismissed but now I'm wondering if there could be some truth in it?

What's peoples experiences with measuring over? Did you have big/long babies?

Could be because you're tall. My bump was only slightly over though and my baby was almost 10lbs at birth. No GD, she's just super tall.

I was 4cm over at 36 weeks and absolutely nothing wrong, a bit more fluid but still within healthy range and a bit of a bigger baby too, I ended up losing 2cm by week 38 so got another scan and still absolutely fine, try not to worry about it too much

Try not to worry the measurements with the tape are not accurate. At 33 week's they sent me for scan as they said baby would be very big for me (5ft 4 and size 8/10 before baby) bump was not big. Went for scan and they put baby on the 50th centile.

At 38 weeks that said she was too small. Scanned again put on 25th. She was actually born at roughly her due date weighing just over 6lbs, small but within the normal range.

Have you been measured by different midwives? I had 3 different ones between 25 weeks and the end last time and that definitely didn't help.

As your tall baby could well be long. On the scan the Femur length with give you an indication of this. My DD isn't tall but always had long legs.

Also I've eaten loads of chocolate both times and not had GD so try not to worry x

If anything, being tall means that you are less likely to measure over on fundal height as a longer torso gives baby more room. I am over 6' and measured spot on throughout but had two very big babies, 9lb and 11lb 9oz, with no GD. It is good that they are offering you growth scans; if they offer you a GTT I would take that too.

I'm 5'8 and had very long skinny babies but my fundal height was always spot on. Dc1 for example was 19th percentile for weight, 96th for length. A trajectory he's still following as an almost 9 year old.

So just back from scan and although baby is measuring big, its proportionately big and still within 10th and 90th centiles on my chart (was way over 97th!) so no further tests needed - phew! I think they are just gonna be long!
