Low PAPP - A after my 12 week screening.

Hi all!

Just wondering if any of you lovelies can put my mind at ease. I had a call from my midwife this morning to say my combined screening was 1-3000 for downs and 1 - 5000 for Edward's and Patau's.

However, she then went on to tell me that my PAPP - A was considered low and advised immediate aspirin and booking in for growth scans from 28 weeks, every 4 weeks.

Is this something I should be majorly concerned about? After doing some (I know, I know) googling, it has mixed information and a lot of scary stuff. She didn't give me my exact number, which is concerning me more. Just said its "low and may be connected to some issues during pregnancy"

Anyone else been through similar?

Not been through similiar, however your risk ratings are very low. The lowest ratings most trusts do now is 1:5000 so you have that for one and close to that for the other. I think 1:150 is where you move into higher risk.

My PAPP-A result was loaded into my badger notes so keep an eye there for the number.

Yes I had low papp-a in pregnancy. I never googled because I didn't want to be freaked out. However, I think as long as you're aware of it and it's monitored, you should be fine.

I took aspirin, had extra growth scans and extra midwife appointments. My pregnancy was straightforward until I had reduced growth towards the end. I was then induced and DS was born at 37+3 6 pound 1.

He's a perfectly healthy 7 month old. As long as you follow all the advice you will be fine. Just be prepared that you'll be advised not to go over the due date most likely.

Also I don't think you need to read into her not telling you the exact number, my badger notes just said 'below 0.4'

I had low p appa with my first. The midwife forgot to tell me to take aspirin but luckily there were no issues. There’s a correlation with small babies but mine was large so it’s not a guarantee of anything. Most who have it are fine. They never used to test for it so many women wouldn’t even be aware they had it.

I had low PAPP-A. I Googled it and absolutely terrified myself, but everything was fine. I was never told what the number actually was either, I had the growth scans throughout pregnancy and my baby was born at 40+2 weighing 7lbs 7lbs 8oz. He's currently a very happy, healthy toddler who runs me ragged every day!

Hello,

I had low Papp-A on my 12week too and have been offered growth scans. They did say it wasn't too much to worry about in my case, but I was so marginally under with 0.40 (think their line is 0.41). I wasn't advised to take aspirin. However, when I reached out in here, some women in your position came forward with a similar story to yours and were all fine. I'm currently 16wks and everything is ticking along x
