Lighter line this morning?

Hi, I am 5 weeks today. My line is significantly lighter than yesterdays, and I am really worried. It’s my second pee of the morning, but in the past I have not took my test first thing. Anybody else had this?
(my first pregnancy)

My tests did this and I'd always panic.
However, the tests aren't made to be used like this. They each contain a different amount of dye and results depend on your urine concentration.

You've got a lovely strong line!

I found testing every 2 days, same time each day, gave me reassurance.

Stop testing and worrying. You are pregnant. If you start bleeding then you need to do something.

Micehunter · 13/11/2023 09:40

It’s just one day/test, it’s natural to worry but could be an anomaly in that you are better hydrated etc etc. I would wait a few days then test again. I don’t think HCG rises every day so it’s pointless testing this often.

Toda11 · 13/11/2023 10:00

I'm not sure I would call that significantly lighter. I was expecting it to look like CD 28 but it's not that much lighter than the 2 days before.

Out of interest, why are you still testing?

Marshmallowtoastie · 13/11/2023 10:24

It’s one day, one test and you’ve taken it in different circumstances to normal. I don’t think you can compare, nor are the tests designed to be used this way. I do think you should stop testing if it’s going to give you so much worry, it’s not reassuring you, as hard as that is! Or limit yourself to every 2-3 days if you can. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy

SDreem · 13/11/2023 10:52

@Toda11 I think it just helps reassure me seeing the line get darker, that everything is okay. I’ve never been pregnant before and I just want it to go well. I know it’s silly because today I’ve got myself worried, but usually that little line gives me hope

Thank you everybody. I feel a lot better now, and think I’m going to stop testing daily 😅

Hpt are qualitative not quantitative, they give a yes/no answer. Most tests will have slightly different amounts of dye in them and react slightly differently to the same level of hcg.

You can take 5 tests in the same urine and it's likely that they won't all be the exact same level of darkness.

Line progression only really works for very early pregnancy when lines are quite faint. Once you get an obvious, dark result, stop testing. It's unlikely they'll get darker and the odd lighter one can scare the crap out of you over nothing.

sugarplum33 · 15/11/2023 05:55

@SDreem I think you've recognised yourself that these reassurance tests are not reassuring you, so this might be the moment to take a step back from them.

No judgement though, I did the same and never really got great line profession and some days were definitely lighter. I'm now 18 weeks though so it definitely wasn't anything to worry about.

Checking makes you anxious. Our brains trick us into thinking checking reassures us but it's not rue.

You've tested, you're pregnant, no amount of tests will have any effect on the pregnancy so why waste the money, energy and worry?
