CMPA previous babies - when to go dairy free this time?

my DC both had CMPA from birth and I went dairy free as soon as it was discovered with DC1. I was advised to go dairy free with DC2 towards the end of the pregnancy but he came early so didn’t get to do this. Does anyone know at how many weeks I should go dairy free in this pregnancy so that my milk is free if dairy? X

It supposed to take 3 weeks to fully be out of your system but with my CMPA babies if I ever had a slip up, I noticed improvement after 2-3 days. I am aiming to go dairy free fully from around 37 weeks this time but I don't have a lot of dairy anyway :). Obviously no way of knowing when baby is going to come especially following a pre term birth but probably a couple of weeks before either due date or the number of weeks you gave birth before, depending on what you're comfortable with?

Following as interested in replies. I thought 2-3 weeks ahead of presumed due date.

My little girl is still intolerant at nearly 3, just starting on step 1 on milk ladder again and hoping goes better this time as having a tough time with sleep this pregnancy already!

I wanted to express as much colostrum as possible antenatally this time as I think this baby will also have a tongue tie, as my daughter had one and there's a really strong family history. So was thinking 34/35 weeks start excluding but that's Christmas week so probs 36 weeks realistically 🤔

@Igglepiggleandhisboat With your second child how was it at the start? Did you wait to see if had issues or start excluding at birth? I do wonder if I should wait and see but think I will be too worried about the possibility of CMPA again and interpret normal baby behaviour as allergies anyway!

DC2 was more settled to start with so midwife said to not worry about excluding it. He then became unsettled but was then poorly and had surgery which was unrelated to the CMPA but doctors told me that him being unsettled was related to that. However after surgery he was still unsettled, sick etc but nowhere near DC1. I then excluded dairy and he was so much better.
I want to make sure this time I’m clear!

Following as wondering the same thing! Will you do a milk challenge with the baby at some point to confirm CMPA?

Ihatewinding · 12/11/2023 09:28

@Igglepiggleandhisboat I know what you mean about wanting to be clear. It's hard enough trying to work out what's unsettling little babies without having to stress about allergies and dietary exclusions!

Have been necking milk all through this pregnancy to try help with tolerance as well, as been suggested by some studies that high maternal consumption in pregnancy reduces risk CMPA/I in offspring. So going to be a shock when have to stop!

I did 6 weeks before due with my second, and then added dairy slowly back to my diet once breastfeeding was established around 2 months old. She turns out not to have any dairy issues at all. Ds is now almost 5 and is on step 11 of the dairy ladder, he can handle everything except glasses of milk now.
