How to get Food intolerance tests on NHS?

Has any-one successfully been tested for food intolerances through the NHS(note- not full on allergies). IBS is terrible now(nearly 3rd trimester) and I can guess at certain triggers but can’t be sure. If yes, what are the magic words?

Doctors have always been really unbothered and just offered pills , which solve nothing, so found my own treatments (intermittent fasting and saunas and sometimes alcohol😂) which are all off limits during pregnancy.

Have you asked for a dietitian referral? Hopefully it will calm down after birth as baby will be putting lots of pressure on your digestive system at the moment.

Have you tried doing low FODMAP? working out intolerance is mostly through exclusion diets and reintroducing to see what the triggers are. the tests that are advertised as being able to identify allergies and intolerance through hair samples etc are a load of crap.

Ive looked at low FODMAP but Im vegetarian so it is difficult.
No, thanks I may try asking for a dietician . Hadn’t realised they were available on NHS.

NHS refused to test me for menopausal ones. I just paid for a private test - about £120

A strict low FODMAP diet may be too restrictive while you are pregnant however most dietitians who deal with IBS will assess your current dietary intake and and might potentially try suggesting some less drastic changes while ensuring an nutritionally optimal diet for your stage of pregnancy?

There are some resources on the British Dietetic Association Website which may help?

I'm not sure what your local waiting lists are like in the NHS for dietitians, they may be quite long sadly... if you have the money there are Freelance Dietitians on the website too, many offer online appointments as well as face to face. One that looks good is City Dietitians - they have some really good ones on there and I think they offer on line appointments.

Good luck 🤞
