CVS - anyone who's had this

I'm booked in for a CVS this week and have just read about how common it is to have a slight bleed and even cramping after this procedure. How scary, but people must just think they're miscarrying do they?

I'm so nervous of harming this longed for baby! God it's a nightmare isn't it?

I dont know but bump 4 u.

Bettispaghetti · 12/03/2008 12:52

I had a CVS at 38 weeks. It was a really quick and painless procedure. They did warn me that it could result in an emergency CS if the baby became distressed but they monitored me and the baby really closely after the procedure and everything was fine. I didn't have any bleeding or pain.

I understand exactly how you are feeling and it is natural to worry but hopefully the procedure will be as successful as mine and by next week it'll all just be a memory.

Good luck

Bettispaghetti · 12/03/2008 12:56

Sorry I'm talking total cr*p. I'm talking about an ECV - doh nappy head alert.!

Brangelina · 12/03/2008 12:58

I had a cvs at 12 weeks. Maybe I was lucky but I had absolutely no cramping or bleeding, all I had was this "pulling" sensation which went away the next day.

Apparently a little bleeding is slightly common and doesn't necessarily mean a miscarriage. I was told to watch out for it being red and consistent, i.e. no the odd drop.

Try not to worry too much, if you get a good doctor the miscarriage rates are next to non-existent. The 1% is being hugely overrated and tends to take into account "natural" 1st trimester miscarriages too as you can never tell if it was due to the cvs itself.

Brangelina · 12/03/2008 13:00

at my crap English. I hope you understood what I meant anyway.

PatsyCline · 12/03/2008 13:12

Hi,

I had a CVS at 18 weeks to check for Edward's Syndrome. It was very straightforward - I had always been horrified at the thought of having a CVS or an amnio, but it really was just a little 'pulling sensation' as Brangelina said. I didn't have any bleeding or cramps.

Good luck with everything.

I found it uncomfortable but I was more nerves than anything else. I had a tiny bruise afterwards and I had no spotting .
I also had to have an anit D jab afterwards as I am O neg and I think that was worse !

Oldasthehills · 12/03/2008 13:50

phew phew phew so glad that's over.
Didn't hurt too badly, feel ok but a bit like sitting down! Just a few days to wait for results, fingers crossed! thnx for your posts so so glad that's over, was terrified.

Apparently the risk of mc is mostly from an accident during the procedure itself. So if the proc goes well and the baby's heartbeat is good, the mc risk goes down to one in a thousand. So feel a bit better for that!

Glad it wasn't too bad, OatH.

OatH, sorry I only just picked this up. The waiting game is an awful, awful time to go through and I am sending you a very large virtual hug.

I will always remember having gone from being excited and happy about being pregnant to having a terrible feeling of dread and not knowing what the future would hold.

I can't tell you how much I wish that I could make this go away for you.

When will you get the results ?.. I said to DH he needed to totally help me take my mind off things whilst I was waiting - he bought me hello / ok and threatened to test me on the contents!!!
Hope you managed to rest last night .

Oldasthehills · 14/03/2008 10:59

Thnx for these messages, I should hear today but it may be Monday, I'm horrified at the thought of having to go through the whole week end and so is dh. I was horrible to him yesterday really took it out on him but he was very good and realised it's just the strain of it all is too much sometimes.

I keep thinking my odds are so bad 1 in 33 or "97% chance that all is fine" (as the dr put it). I think I just feel so unlikely in all aspects of fertility that I can't imagine them phoning and saying all is well. Just can't picture it.

Anyway about to get busy and distracted. Thanks all.

Fingers crossed that you get the call today, OatH.

Patsy

Oldasthehills · 14/03/2008 11:46

Thanks Patsy, we still haven't told anyone yet, other than two members of our family each! Since mc a few years ago, I just don't want to count my chickens, it's taken so long even to just get pregnant again let alone hang onto it!

So the secrecy and everthing make it lonely but also a relief

I know . I had to wait a week well it was wed and they called the MOnday . The weekend was terrible I made myself play a computer game borrowed from my niece anything to keep my brain occupied. ( have never touched it since !) Don't think of the negatives think of the positives.

PatsyCline · 14/03/2008 14:07

Yep, if you don't get the call today, OatH, I think a weekend of mindless mags, films and computer games is pretty essential. I remember thinking what a shame it was that I couldn't get horribly drunk whilst waiting for the test results.

My tests were looked at over Christmas, which was unlucky in that they took longer to come back than normal - seven long days I believe - but lucky in that we had lots of stuff going on.

Sending a very large virtual hug to you.

Patsy

Oldasthehills · 14/03/2008 15:12

thanks, thanks, thanks, really appreciate your thoughts!
Cheering up now, ds off school sick so am distracted a bit.
It could still be today but if not -I'm sure we'll be ok this w/end, dvds etc, I may even try to get to the cinema - my idea of real escape!

just heard, all clear, feel so relieved, thanks for your support, now I just need to get paranoid about something else! I said to my sister " Well I could still die in labour!" And she said that I would win no positive thinking competitions!

Delighted for you, oldas. Brilliant news and glad you didn't have to wait for the weekend to find out. They are brilliant at the FMC, aren't they? Did you ask the sex??

jeanjeannie · 14/03/2008 16:05

Really, really pleased for you. It's no fun waiting but at least the FMC get back to you quickly...your post bought it all back to me!
Enjoy the relief over the weekend...and throughout rest of pregnancy.

bundle · 14/03/2008 16:07

great news oldasthehills, good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

Oldasthehills · 14/03/2008 16:14

I didn't ask the sex! They would know would they?

We didn't know last time so I feel used to that!
